Overall, wasnt too bad.. not like amazing tho!

kinda fecked up the bit on coniferous forests though  started going on about early settlers, wasnt really that relevant :/
Id hope for a B altogether:)

Ya i said about podzols, but i dont actually know if there was..

Yeah I said podzols. Im 99% sure thats right because podzols occur in hilly areas where the soil is infertile

Yeah arable farming refers to tillage, etc.

I did q's 3,4,5.. Reeeeally hope I gota B cause im upset about irish p2 yesterday where i messed up the studied sceal.. :(
Oh well, theres my all b plan ruined.

In geography, arable land (from Latin arare, to plough) is an agricultural term, meaning land that can be used for growing crops

Do you think if I said tillage I would have got the marks?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 219 ✭✭katiemce

So dya all think ya gott A's [/QUOTE

Nah. Getting an A in geog is extremely difficult.

I dont think you would get full marks for this because theres no proof of podzols on the map...

My friend's teacher was waiting outside and she said yeh, it would be that it's hilly and give a grid reference for the height and I can't remember what the other thing she said was but I said it may have been a bog or peaty area because when peat's used up they plant conifers and also podzols. Oh and I said there was a forest and a nature trail

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 583 ✭✭✭patakadarragh

for that i said it was hilly due to close contours so impractical and difficult to farm.
The 2nd reason i had none so isaid on mountains the soil is usually shallow and not suited to farming.

what in the haystacks is arable farming?

Far easier than I expected because I reckoned due to the simplicity of last years one, that they would've tried to make this year's one harder.
    However, couldn't really complain...
Tipped myself for an A in this as managed an A in the Mock but I didn't think I performed aswell, today, ran outta steam or sumthin to that effect... But tis over and done now, hopefully managed a B as I've some cred! No Roll on the second week mother fuk'ers like Science and History :/

Arable farming is growing crops eg cereals like barley, wheat. Pastoral farming is keeping animals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 583 ✭✭✭patakadarragh

thanks...i know about the pastoral farming.....mmmmmm so i suppose keeping sheep aint arable farming then..hehe

Anyone think I'd get marks in the question about the coniferous forest if I said that farmers may have given it to forestry? I know it's kinda a crap point, said I'd throw it down anyway!

no they were planted on a south facing slope which meant it got more sunlight??

yeah but on the map the contours were close on the land near the conifers so it obv indicates that there is high/hilly land there. Soil in hilly land is generally rocky and infertile, i.e podzols and conifers are the types of trees that are suited to podzols because they don't need particularly fertile soil in order to grow. I said that aswell as the fact that it makes up a wee forest for the hill walkers to go and have a stroll!! lol. Right, theres my geography lecture over.

I said that too! I added 3 points just to be safe but I think that's right? I wasn't sure because coniferous trees grow in cold climates and don't really need much heat/sunlight, but whatever! Maybe they'll give me attempt marks?? lol nahh actually..

EDIT: wait what? I googled it again and got a different answer :O
    Radii_Convex_Concave.jpg
This one is correct. My brother remembered a story his old teacher had for understanding it, about an angry teacher who had a vain bulging out on his forehead as he was always in a vex, hence convex. I fear for the child.:pac:

Yeah they were fine! I did them all except the question on climates. I knew the answers to 1 and 2 but i was certain about 3 so I didnt bother wasting my time!! Yeah my river looked a bit dodgy alright :L

1.I said land was difficult for developing ideal for trees
2.Land is wet and leached due to high altitude it experiences wet, windy weather ect. Trees can handle this weather, crops can't.

    I elaborated on this.
    Are the points ok?

Did anyone who did the OS Map question get the last part on why the coniferous plantation was planted there? :/
It's been bugging me cos no one seemed to get it in my year.

I said because it was bad rocky ground and was good for nothing else, didnt do a second.

    (first post, hello to all)

Well if you had looked at your key the
in the forest was a track for walking, and the slightly thick green line indicated that it was a National Park!

I said there was nucleated settlement at one point that had developed due to scenery of Glen River and I said that there was dispersed settlement at another point that had developed due to farming on the fertile soils of the river basin.

any1 know what the type of arable farming was in the short qs?

I said there was dispersed and liner settlement and gave grid references.. Think I'd get anything for it?

Should get the marks for the first part of the question
Did you explain why one of them developed at the grid reference for the second part of question?

Um, but the question could have been interpreted as to why they haven't been removed for development, etc. It doesn't have to be why they GREW there.

Pffttt I just gave a grid ref for linear and nucleated and I wrote one sentence for the second part. "The houses at S whatever are nucleated because 4 third class roads meet at this point and nucleated settlements form at the convergence of roads" Whatevzzz I probably get like 3 out of 9
