Unseen poetry?

    I saw someone write up yesterday 5 key words to use when analysing unseen poetry but now i cant find it! anyone have any advice on how to approach the unseen?

    First, make sure you understand what the question is asking (quite often the question looks for your personal response - do you like/dislike and why?). Useful things to remember are:
    Narrative (what's the story of the poem/what's happening?)
    Theme (what's the general theme/themes of the poem - love, war etc..)
    Structure (is it divided into stanzas - why has the poet choen to do this? New stanzas are often like new paragraphs and introduce a new idea)
    Rhyme (has the poet used rhyme? Why?)
    Imagery (metaphor/simile - unusual, striking, descriptive etc..)
    Other stylistic techniques such as alliteration (repetition of consonant sounds).
