That was the worst Parade I have ever witnessed. Even the old man, whipping dogs leashed with twine, pulling a broken sled with a rag doll from a horror movie in it, didn't show up.

why were people dressed as red coats killing the Irish included in the parade

The aftermath of the parade especially on Slaney Street was unreal & not in a good way as the whole place ended up being destroyed in spray paint & foam by teens acting the bollix & giving the Gardai grief.

    .

Its the same every year or every time there is some sort of March taking place. That certain shop that sells the Air horns the silly string and the spray foam should be told not to sell it or else go and clean the streets when the Parade,Festivals finish.

Yeah! the half arsed filling of potholes at Bellfield has been done (kinda) properly. They put in some nice smooth tarmac but forgot to seal around the edges,it'll be in bits again fairly soon, all for the sake of 10 minutes work.

Needs to be dug up and done properly, there's obviously a poor base underneath.

The key word you used is "properly",I'd love to compare the cost of doing it right and having it last for years compared to paying 3 men to throw delay set tar on the holes every 2 days for the next 5 years.

On a more positive note, the shooting of the film "Brooklyn" is bringing a bit of life to the town - Castle Street in particular is the focus of much activity with the old National Bank, the Athenaeum, An Siopa Brog, (and the empty shop adjoining it) all being used by the film company.

Apparently there were large crowds at the Riverside Park yesterday where the film company were recruiting extras. Let's hope that the town makes more of this film than it did from the two previous ones - "The Violent Enemy" (1967) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063781/ and "Underground" (1970) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066505/ . Both films were big budget efforts but there's no reference to them in town - not a photo, poster or anything else to show that they ever happened.

Seriously though what do people expect, it's a small town in the corner of Ireland hardly a need or desire to spend a fortune repairing roads. Fine if there was an abundance of money available then yes the roads would be in pristine condition, but the fact is there is almost zero funding so people will just have to live with it.

If a few little potholes are all people have to complain about then things really aren't that bad.

The majority of the traffic going to and from Roslare ferry port has to travel through Enniscorthy. You should have been there yesterday when the clowns were cutting the trees on the quays.

Exactly the point we were making, they are spending a fortune repairing the same potholes repeatedly.
Perhaps your not familiar with the area?

Unless of course that traffic is not going near Enniscorthy, maybe heading to the south west, Waterford, Cork, Kerry, etc.

Or maybe they come a different direction altogether such as down the Gorey road and through Wexford Town, wont be long until Enniscorthy is bypassed anyway which should make a difference to the traffic volumes.

And as for the clowns cutting the trees on the quays, damned if they do damned if they don't.;)

Best thing to do is not repair them at all, stop wasting the money and use it instead for something else more worthwhile.

There is a system now required by anyone doing works in public places, where traffic is concerned, its called a traffic management plan, Wexford CC and others do not know that it applies to them as well. It would have been a simple operation to have the parking suspended on the left hand side of the street for the duration of the works, instead of tunneling the traffic into one lane.

But sure who enforces the traffic management plan? If it is the Council I wouldn't be overly shocked to see them not using one as who is going to give out to them.

Something like a dedicated dogshit remover,he'd have work 24/7 in the town.

Believe it or not the road from Blackstoops through to 'The Wexford Road' is meant to be under the control of the NRA as it's classed as a National Route, but they pass the buck for the upkeep of that stretch to the Council as they claim it's under their remit because it's in the town,as a result, the bare minimum is done to keep it repaired. An Irish solution to an Irish problem.

Exactly they will never be fixed and even if they were they wouldn't be done properly so why bother at all. Potholes aren't that big an issue, they are just something for people to moan about, keeps em happy.

Every day funnily enough. Potholes are not a major issue, they are just something for people to moan about, the majority of roads around the place aren't bad at all. One or two maybe but that is to be expected really with the volumes of traffic on them.

I don't believe it......You got a link to back up that claim about the Co Co being responsible for that road? While they are the roads authority for the County of Wexford the NRA are directly responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the country's Primary and Secondary National road network.

    http://www.nra.ie/network-monitoring-and-management/

National roads are National Roads regardless of Towns or Counties. The NRA are responsible for the maintenance of the N11 in its entirety, hence the recently completed NRA funded pavement improvement scheme from Blackstoops roundabout to the garage, the NRA funded replacement safety barrier scheme carried out on the same stretch approx 3 years ago, the NRA funded line marking and road signs maintenance contracts managed and controlled by the NRA not the County Council. At the moment the NRA are surveying most of the N11 and N30 in Enniscorthy town with a view to carrying out major resurfacing schemes later this year.

Facts are important in this thread....not speculating.....

I wasn't speculating,I was told this but will not name who told me on a public forum. It's just one of those "pass the buck" situations which ends up with the bare minimum of repairs being done to the road.

What grinds my gears is seeing works being done towards the end of the year on stretches of road that are fine in order to use any excess funds while areas that are in chronic need of works are neglected. In December part of the road @ Scarawalsh was planed & relaid for no apparent reason - the surface was perfect.

Work continues apace on transforming Castle Street for "Brooklyn" with filming due to start next Monday. The former Evolv premises has had a major facelift and today Ibar Carty's shop was getting a makeover. According to this weeks' Guardian more than 2,500 people auditioned for roles as Extras at last weeks registration at the Riverside Park Hotel.

There's talk of it being touched up but it will only be cosmetic for the film. The interior is featuring in the movie.
