Latest news on the retail front:

Miu Miu on Castle Street has closed down (for the 2nd time); the former barber's at the top of Slaney Street has reopened as an e cigarette shop and the burnt-out hairdresser's premises further down the street has - at last - been tastefully refurbished. Pictures tell their own story.

The street cleaner is back after it's test run several weeks ago.

Does that mean the town is going to be clean? Anyway, it's the filthy pavements that need cleaning not the roads.

Another charity shop opening across from the Cathedral. It's getting beyond a joke at this stage.

@Kneemos,I see the local boy racers have been testing the new tarmac at Bellfield.

It's just the Mrs.Quinn's shop relocating from Court Street. A poor decision imo but what would I know.

That'll leave another empty unit along that stretch from Rafter St,/Court St.

The place was virtually deserted this morning.

I see there's planning permission for a Cafe, retail and office space for John of God House.

Also notice it's marked as rural.
Does the town boundary stop there or what?

Bolands have a planning notice up for a dealership on the wooded area opposite Donohues ,on the town side of the roundabout.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,363 ✭✭✭✭Del.Monte

The pavement cleaning is a disaster. A cursory glance at the results - apart from a number of businesses that I spoke who complained about water and grit going under their doors and into their premises - shows that the powerwashing has left the chewing gum behind, removed a lot of the sand from between the cobblelock and already resulted in subsidence in places.

Even if the work had been a complete success, leaving the paving filthy for years and then cleaning it to look nice for a week or two is madness as well as a waste of money.

Audi & SEAT apparently, but who knows.....

Competition for Donohoe's and a good sign for the motor trade...

Plenty of choice as regards premises. I see "The Greek Fella" is already gone.

That corner seems to be jinxed, nobody lasts long in that premises. The guy seemed to be doing all the work himself, that'd burn anybody out.

Since Thornton's chemist vacated that premises Abrakebara seemed to be the only business that lasted more than 1-2 years there.

Just leave them on either the bare meadows or on the island.

The strawberry fair seems to have morphed into a glorified farmers market.
