Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I must have missed this, what did they do to rile FIFA?

It was those infamous playoffs. France, Greece, Portugal and Russia were given an extra leg-up from FIFA for failing in their qualification groups by further seeding of the plyoffs (as if the origional seeding wasn't enough of an advantage). Slovenia overcame this and knocked Russia out, so that's what I mean when I say they stuck it to FIFA.

    Ah the seedings, right.

Yep, pity we couldn't give them the two fingers too.

I'm rooting for team USA and a bit of the Aussies. As long as there isn't any dodgy refeering decisions and lots of beatiful games i will be a happy camper. And Diago forlan to get a bagful of goals (66/1).

    Holland
    Argentina
    England

In no particular order, just like to see these teams do well for different reasons.

Would also like to see the following teams doing well: Slovenia, Holland, Spain, Cote d'Ivoire and Germany.

    COME ON ENGLAND

I have a feeling it could be Argentina's year, but as with Pompey, I will always believe.

Nice to see so many Germany fans (possibly Germans?) on here.

    I too fancy them.

Does anyone know if there's an adopted 'Germany pub' to watch the games in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,162 ✭✭✭rednik

Drew Germany in work so I guess I will root for them.

I'm initially rooting for Switzerland as my sister has been living there for over 20 years and I have a Swiss brother-in-law, but don't think they'll make it out of the group.

Going to put a fiver each way on Spain and Argentina

I got Spain at 7/1 last year put 50 quid on them e/w so happy with that..

Have backed Brazil 5/1 and Germany too.

The British will be following two teams at the world cup, England and (as usual) whoever they are playing.

In Wales case, it is the same every year, in Scotland's case it is the same mosty years, give oir take the first two weeks.

Besides Spain.. Uruguay, Serbia(despite Vidic :pac:) and Holland in that order.

Greece. Playing the same sort of nauseating non-football that won them Euro 2004. Wouldn't be much of a spectacle but might piss FIFA off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,732 ✭✭✭Reganio 2

Want Germany or France to win it. Think Brazil will win it.

Want Germany to win it just cause they are awesome and they never do anything wrong ever they are awesome.

France cause I wanna see all the guys on here and in Ireland that no nothing about football go "Oh Em Gee that should have been us Thierry Henry is such a cheat I will never buy any cuisine de france rolls again" when if it had of been Robbie Keane to do it he would still be getting high 5's as he walked down the road.

I reckon Holland will do well. There's far too much hype surrounding Spain, I think they're struggle to live up to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

Well since i am from that country, it has to be Holland.
But earlier this week i read a quote from Leo Beenhakker that pretty much sums up Holland over the years:

"90% of the countries go to a WC to win the thing, Holland go there to show everybody how good they are"

If things go to plan, Holland will meet Spain or Brazil in the 1/4 final. I can see them beat either one of those 2 and then go out in the semis against Slovenia or some other obscure opponent.
    Bit what happeened during euro2008.

I'll be rooting for England, or at least I will attempt to, that would be the grown up thing to do.

However, I will find myself dancing with joy when they get knocked out for some bizarre reason.

wow im not mad im the same ,really want them to do well untill the semis then ill be up for anybody that plays them .......weird that lol

Have Holland at 10/1, though they played some pretty boring football against Denmark, not their usual style!
Australia. Live here, the roos are an entertaining team generally. The Aussies can be pretty fairweather, but the thought of Oz vs England gives me the horn.
