    Can someone show me how to do a simultaneous equation?:confused:

    Will the formula tables be the same as the ones I bought in the shop?

    gimi an example & il use it to explain it to you :D

    ..if your tables are the browny ones then yes, if theyr the blue ones then therel be a few minor changes.. :)

    Solve for x and y

    x-y=1
    x squared + y squares

    Does anyone know what the percent rate for failure is for ORD maths:o

    say 2x + 4y = 20
    x + 8y = 8

    You multiply the bottom line by 2, so you can cancel the X's. Or you could do the Y's two. Make sure to change one of the lines, by multiplying by -1 if the numbers you're canceling are the same sign.

    2x + 4y = 20
    2x + 16y = 16

    I'm gonna change the bottom line. so its now -2x -16y = -16

    The 2's cancel, -12y = 4
    -y = (1 over 3)
    y = -(1 over 3)

    Sub the Y value into one of the equations.
    2x + 4(1 over 3) = 20
    2x =18.6666
    x = 9.3333

    I'm sorry that was a horrible example. But hopefully you get the drift of what to do.

    Got 31 % in the pres but I didn't do the option question on paper 2 and didn't answer 2 of the calculus question so hoping to scrape a pass fingers crossed.

    Do you get extra marks for neatness btw?;)

    Oh this, my bad.

    x = 1 + y
    Put this into the equation with the squares.
    (1 +y)^2 + y^2 = 0
    1 + 2y + y^2 + y^2 = 0
    2y^2 + 2y + 1 = 0
    (y + 1)(y + 1) = 0
    y = -1

    x + (-1) = 0
    x = 1

    x - y = 1
    x = y + 1

    you plug that into
    x squared + y squared = 0

    it turns into
    (y + 1)squared + y squared = 0

    multiply out..
    y squared + 2y + 1 + y squared = 0

    tidy up
    2y squared + 2y + 1 = 0

    then work it out as a normal equation :) find the roots, solve for y, plug your answers back into x = y + 1 to solve for x.. :D

    If you've the tables with the blue cover, then there are some very minor changes made, and errors corrected. Tbh, it's quite minor altogether and the changes can be found on www.examinations.ie .

    The brown cover ones are exactly what you'll get in the exams.

    10.3% of candidates failed pass maths last year (but 89.7% passed! :))
