ESTOFEX have a widespread Level 2 out for much of central and eastern Europe tomorrow, damaging hail, significant wind gusts and tornadoes. The setup is very similar to that of the US this week, with very a very warm moist airmass being advected northwards, and forming an east-west boundary with cooler air to the north. Stability indices may not be as severe, but it's certainly looking dodgy. One to watch

    ... NE-Germany, N-Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and extreme W-Russia ...

A concentrated outbreak of severe thunderstorms is forecast. Thunderstorms will produce large hail, significant events (5cm and more) possible, damaging wind gusts and tornadoes, strong ones possible.

Looks pretty serious. Will be interesting to see the next dmi.dk update in about an hour to see how it to see if there is any up/downgrade.

yr.no run this evening has much the same area covered as Estofex for tomorrow:

Surface temps are expected to reach 30c+ in western/northern Poland tomorrow which should help. Baltic states seem to be particularly at risk later tomorrow night.

Yes they're already having a dress rehearsal in parts this evening, with several convective systems breaking out in the areas highlighted above. There have already been several reports of severe weather made to the European Severe Weather Database

Hope nobody gets killed/injured during this, but at the same time I'm a little bit jealous, I'd love to experience some severe weather like that over here. :pac:

Here's a video of 5cm hail and strong winds in Poland yesterday http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1iTxl6ifBQ

Convection has continued during the night, with 130km/h gusts reported in Weinbiet, Germany, and 100km/h at Frankfurt Airport. There is an active system now moving through northeastern Germany, linked to a tongue of very high dewpoints and strong vertical windshear. Things should shortly start to kick off in other areas further to the northeast as surface temperatures increase.

Look at the 10°C temperature drop in 1 hour in Gdansk Airport yesterday as a thunderstorm approached, going from 28 to 18°C. Also the wind changed from southeast to northwest (150 to 330°), gusting to 28 knots.

Activity today has started over northern Italy and moved northeastwards through Austria and the Czech republic, with cloudtops at around 40,000ft and -65°C, generating some nice overshooting tops, visible in the setting sun. And that's some concentration of lightning strikes at the moment!
