If NK allowed their supporters to follow the team to SA, few, if any, would return home!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,551 ✭✭✭SeaFields

Did ye see one of the NK players at national anthem? He was in hysterics crying. I dont know was it the same guy who challenged his citizenship - changing from his south (as his parents wished) to north korea so he could play soccer for them

Personally after they're decent display tonight I have finally found a team worth following in this otherwise sh!te tournament. :)

Was a good game. They certainly done themselves proud, even though Brazil were pretty crap

You'll be joining the guy from Portsmouth who is following NK down in South Africa and who dreams of seeing them play in Pyongyang. He watched them play the Saudi's in Riyadh and was their only supporter there!

I have been supporting North Korea for a few weeks leading up to the world cup. I even managed to convince a few people of their potential.

If North Korea get out of their group I will win 1250euro, if the reach the final and are beaten I will win 11,250euro. If they win the whole thing, I'll win 41,250euro. I'll be happy if they just get out of their group.

    Come on North Korea !!

I was wondering where that bunch of NK supporters came from when seen on the tv pictures from the stadium.

They couldn't all have been govt secret agents! :)

“But as one North Korean friend told me, they have a saying there: ‘Over the mountains, there are mountains’.”

And we have a saying here.. "Stop talking sh*te, ye bleedin' bollix"

It took the immigration officers in Australia 3 years to round em up after the Sydney Olympics. But most of these guys play their football in the J league and in Europe.

Cant afford to only because DPRK has its populace under a Truman Show type daze. Anytime one of them has tried to book a flight theyre told by Traverocity and Price Rine that it will cost them a million dollars.

Whatever happens in reality.back in the twilight zone that is North Korea the team will return to Pyongyang as winners of the tournament , a stunning 9-0 victory inspired by their god like glorious leader of Kim Il-sung's half time pep talk via mobile phone.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,981 ✭✭✭monosharp

Bit of a misconception there lads, none of these players are likely to defect. You do know that the world cup is not their only time outside of the country ? They do actually play other international games, the qualifiers for this world cup for example. They were in Switzerland a month or two ago for training and 3 of them play outside the country.

An Yong-Hak now plays in Japan, he used to play in South Korea.
Jong Tae-Se was born in Japan to South Korean parents and went through a long legal battle to get a North Korean passport/citizenship.
Hong Yong-Jo used to play in North Korea, then in Serbia and now in Russia.

And thats the current squad, a lot of North Koreans actually play in Japan, theres even one guy who plays in Switzerland, Kim Kuk-Jin.

A lot of North Korean students too actually go abroad, especially Switzerland and Sweden, to study.

North Korea might well be hell on earth for 50%+ of the population but theres quite a large minority who live quite well, especially people who are good at something or members of the (relatively large) elite.

Look at China, you could be living in a modern rich city. Drive 2 hours into the countryside and people are barely surviving in medieval conditions. North Korea's similar, live in Pyongyang or one of the other cities and be a member of the elite and your life is relatively good.

Nonsense. They have enough propaganda to fill a hundred libraries about the Great and Dear leaders, but they generally let a censored version of the truth in regarding sports, world affairs etc.

The last few world cups a South Korean TV channel was contracted to provide free delayed coverage of the matches. The only reason they haven't done so this year is because of the recent trouble regarding the sinking of the South Korean ship.

North Koreans might be brainwashed but its a very specific field they are brainwashed about. They are perfectly aware of their ranking in world football. Their team got to the quarter finals in 1966 and are still heralded as heroes for that.

That statement would make a little more sense if My Name Is URL was also one of them.

Let's not forget who started the thread in Feedback.

Takes a lot of chutzpah to disagree with Moderators and suggest change.

Cheers Mods but a special thanks to URL.

Did anyone else think that John Woo could have directed Cristiano Ronaldo's diving yesterday?:D Slow - motion falling with an intense facial expression. Only thing missing was a blazing 9mm in each hand.
