Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah Giles is one of the highest paid guys on RTE and he couldn't be bothered doing his job for the biggest gig in 4 years.

That's what I've been saying for years guys.

It's a bit of a nonsense alright. His pre game analysis leaves a lot to be desired.

In fairness though Giles probably knows a lot more about british soccer than Didi. there are 32 teams involved like, he cant be expected to know everything about every team, and he wont lie and pretend he does :D.

I love John! Legend! jokes about Honda LOL

Giles lacks "honesty of effort" :)

Giles says the exact same thing when a non English club that aren't Barcelona or Real Madrid are playing in the Champions League.
    It's a ****ing disgrace really.

I'd take a guess that he's 'researched' max 8 teams out of those 32.

Souness: "If these Paraguayans were any good, they would be playing for better teams."

O'Herlihy: "Well, we made the same mistake about USA and Australia."

Souness sat in silence for 5 seconds with a look of shock: "But Germany beat Australia 4-0."

Bill is losing it I think.

Even the great Dunphy needs a day off once a week I suppose. Probably a bit too to ask for him to work 31 days in a row. :D Not sure what work legislation would have to say about that.

Dunphy gave himself a red card remember? That's at least a one game suspension.

He's probably down the bookies considering before every game he says something along the lines of "I wouldn't bet against them to win, in fact, I've put my money on them to win"

is alan shearer the smuggest pundit on the planet?

When Kuyt scored for Netherlands today the ITV Commentator said "The ever reliable Dirk Kuyt scores for Holland". Since when has Dirk Kuyt ever been reliable?

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,676 ✭✭✭jayteecork

Loved how George Hamilton kept harping on about how many guys in the Paraguay team weren't born in Paraguay.

In fairness that coming from an Irishman.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

During the Holland/Denmark game, Poulsen cleared the ball off the line and the commentator was a little undecided. That was until he got a second look and it was clearly not over the line.

Commentator: "Look at that, who needs technology?".

Well you obviously to have been able to see a replay

Since always?? Don't watch football much, do you?

I though the whole atmosphere with Brady & Souness last night was hilarious! Poor 'ol Bill was trying to pull blood from a stone trying to get a decent conversation out of them. Aprés Match was brilliant!

Souness: "D'ya know hu harrrd e am?"

Kuyt consistently performs well and scores in the big pressure games. Has scored in every round of the champions league, from Group stages right through to the final, as well as in European Championships and now at the World Cup.

    Some typical RTE moments tonight:

Eamon: They are very disciplined and organised, there is a lot to be said for the North Korean way of life!

George: That goal was so good it was like a cross between Carlos Alberto and Van Basten.

Bill: "If Brazil didn't have the two goal lead, they wouldn't have switched off and conceded the goal."

John: "Thats right Bill" (in a patronising tone)

Bill: "I should be an analyst".

John: Sven got England out of the group stages but you would expect that.

Bill: Well, England have an easy group.

John: We're talking about Sven's World Cups, Bill.

    Something along the lines of

Darragh: "Didi, have we seen anything from this Honduras team to show they are still in it, I mean this is a huge step from their qualifying, tougher games now, are they showing anything that they can get back in it?"

    Didi: "No"

    Darragh: "Ok, next question"

    Cue laughter.
