Does anyone remember what they goy for x in the long division question?

    I kinda cheated by saying if 3x + 1 is a root then x=-.33

    I'm scewed:mad:.

sure my accounting teacher said that 1 year wen he was correcting accounting papers that other correctors agreed that they will change the marking scheme of the questions themselves 2 that of the markng scheme of the department of education because they thought it waz a very difficult paper compared to other years

so how come that cant happen for maths ???????

That didn't happen. Not that I'm calling you a liar but it just couldn't happen. The papers are marked and rechecked by someone else so if you deviate from the scheme, you will have to explain yourself.

That was the weirdest paper I have ever done in maths....

Felt sooo weird for some reason. As if it wasn't the Leaving and it was some crappy made up mock...

    Meh, did ok though.
I feel strange though. Maybe I should lie down...
I know what you mean, it felt really odd and similar to a mock paper, but I suppose that had something to do with the fact that it was so unlike the other papers from the last 4-5 years.

I agree with you to a certain extent but yeah this one was definitely one of the hardest.

Will they mark it easier, considering everyone seemed to find it hard?

comparing to other years if a certain high percentage like 85% of students really struggled at a part C of a question for example

markers can't just change the scheme to suit themselves. They are not allowed and would be fired for doing so. The marking conference is on next week and they'll probably allocate less marks for the parts that caused difficulty.

You were supposed to do long division :P

You'd end up with a quadratic which you would use for the next part of the question..

5)(c) In a geometric series, the fourth term is 9 and the seventh term is 243.
    (i) Find r, the common ratio.
(ii) Find a, the first term.
(iii) Find S8 , the sum of the first eight terms.

(i)The fourth and the seventh terms are three places apart so T5=9x3=27 and T6=243/3=81.T5/T4 is equal to T7/T6 which is 27/9 is equal to 243/81 which equals to 3.So r,the common ratio is 3.

    (ii)Knowing that the common ratio is 3 T3=9/3=3,T2=3/3=1 and T1=1/3=1/3 or 0.333333333.So a,the first term is 1/3 or 0.333333333.

(iii)Sn=a(1-r^n)/1-r so S8=1/3(1-3^8)/1-3 S8=-2186/2/3over-2 which is equal to 1093/1/3.So S8,the sum of the first eight terms is 1093/1/3.

You certain about these, because I think I got them all. :D
Anymore solutions would be much appreciated.

Did anyone get these co-ordinates for 6c(ii) (-1,4) and (1,-4)

  • Registered Users Posts: 137 ✭✭JoeyBuddy

These are only my answers, but I'd like to see if anyone else got the same:

    Q1:
    (a)1/25
    (b)(i) 0.011
(ii)E292(ish...I can't remember the exact figure)
    (c)E7500(ish)
    (ii) E5500 @ 4%

    Q2:
    (a) 0,1,2
    (b) (Can't remember)
    (c) I know I got these wrong anyway.

    Q3:
    (a) A=5
(b)9.1 (ish...I know this is wrong)
(c)(Got these wrong too, I'd say)

    (Will post some more later)

Okay I'll pick some random C parts..

    Q1(c)
    (i) = €7500
    (ii) = €5500 @ 4%

    Q3(c)
    (i) Subbed 2+Root3 in for X & found the value of C - Other root was 2-Root3
    (ii)k=25 x=5

    Q4(c)
    (i) This involved simultaneous equtations.. Cant remember my answer

    Q7(c)
    (i) t=0 & t=10
(ii) Cant remember.. Differenciate the given equation and sub in t=2.5
    (iii) t>5

Thanks joeybuddy and danger781, all i know was i'd a good question one from looking at some your answers, might have done okay in question 2, and picked up a few marks in question 3.
For the table in question 8 where you needed the graph , but what would that be worth 5 or 10 marks? some of the subbing in was grand like.
    I hate long division.

    Paper 2.
Simpsons rule, probability, statistics, gonna try to do a lot on these, also on other questions like distance mid point etc...
hate the trig questions but i'll try everything all day tomorrow and sunday , as i really need points badly in paper 2.
I am not sure how i will do in linear programming but if i revise it and go back, hopefully iw ill be grand.

    Q4:
(I did 4, but I can't remember my answers. Pretty sure I got a and b out though.)

    Q5:
    (a) 4,2,1,1/2,1/4
    (b)(i) 4
    (ii)58
    (iii) Can't remember
    (c)(i)r=3
    (ii)a=1/2
    (iii) 1093.33

    Q6:
    (a)7
(b)(This would take too long to write out)
    (c) Got this one wrong, I think.

    Q7:
    (a) 2x-6
    (b)-3
    (ii) Can't remember.
    (c)(i)Can't remember
    (ii) 20
    (iii) 5

    Q8:
Would take too long to write out this one.
Think I did okay in it though.
My graph had an up, slightly down, then up again curve.

Let me know if anyone got the same answers as me in anything. Thanks. ;)
