    This.

Some incredible number of people in my year cheated, none of them got courses they wanted and ended up in ITs.......

    BUT.

Please stop bítching at eachother, Boards is a discussion forum......

I take offense to your comment regarding IT's, what makes Universities any "better?"

I went to an IT by choice, WIT, infact I didnt want to go to any of the Universities for different reasons, I attained a very reputable degree from said IT, and currently work for a large software company.

IT's arent a sub-standard education, and at the time the degree I received was recognised as better than most of the University computer degrees.

Are you even doing your L.C? Your not studying? And say your not cheating?

There is a need to studying if you want your college course.

    Job Interview:

    *Why should we hire you?*

*Well... I was savvy and was creatitive. I wasn't stupid enough to actually study for my state exams. I decided to use my creativity to cheat.*

In other words :I wasn't fúcking bothered to try really hard to study. Instead I made cheat sheets and decided that I would declare that as being creative...

You must be taking the piss.

You've either misread my post or you probably failed English because I was saying that if you specialise in something in college that you're interested in and you can be creative with then a potential employer (in that industry) isn't going to care that you got a D in some LC subject that isn't relevant to the job you want to get.

I don't see cheating as creativity, I'm purely doing it to get ahead and get mine because I'm looking out for numero uno....And what anybody thinks about my cheating doesn't bother me in the slightest and I would suggest you shouldn't let other people's business bother you either.

It doesn't bother me. I stateed previously that the person shouldn't ''snitch''.

I'm simply trying to make you understand what your doing, because you seem to think it's ''ok'' to cheat when it's not.

If I was actually informed?? I have a degree from UCD you moron.

I'm not being sensationalist and no its not about what you learned off, its about what you understood. There's more to exams than knowing what to write, someone who gets the most out of exams is someone who knows WHY they're writing it, not just what they're writing.

Being a lazy f**ker is not the same as being 'savvy and creative' so stop trying to hide behind an 'entrpreneurial' fantasy that you're smarter than everyone for NOT studying. You're a cop out.

I'm all about working smart, not hard but that means making the most of your study time, not cheating.

How do they know you didn't cheat in your college exams? How do they know you are not goin to cheat on them? Steal money? Pull sickdays ? Not do satisfactory work? Not meet deadlines? Once a cheater always a cheater. Your true colours will eventually show...

I am doing it,have to leave in a minute actually. And no I'd say the need for studying depends on the individual.I tend to remember most things first time around so I just look over them the morning before. And no,I'm not cheating.

    Cheating in an Exam:eek:

I sat my LC in 1997 cheating was common even then

People would write stuff on the bottom of Pencil Cases , Rulers , Hands ,tiny peices of paper I have even seen some one cover there Legs and Arms with stuff about poets and Equations for maths

You will always get Cheating in Exams .

Im 31 now and would still cheat if I had an exam now

I not saying its the right thing to do but it suited me at the time

Cheating is ok if you have no moral conscience or sense of right or wrong.
But there is actually something wrong with you if you truly believe that cheating is ok.

Cheating is an act of lying, deception, fraud, trickery, imposture, or imposition. Cheating characteristically is employed to create an unfair advantage, usually in one's own interest, and often at the expense of others

And do you don't see why you do like 6-9 subjects for the leaving cert?.
Obviously for some subjects it'll give you a stepping stone with what you want to study but the LC is not testing how smart you are. It's how hard your willing to work. If your not going to work now why would we assume your not going to cheat in college, get kicked out and waste a place someone else could get?

The leaving cert isn't about right or wrong...Its a competition to see who can recite the most on exam day and by doing so get a college place. Why wouldn't somebody do everything in their power to maximize their advantage? If some people don't want to cheat so be it,its their loss..

And if I was planning on wasting a college place I wouldn't bother with the Lc in the first place.

At the end of the day it's not going to affect your results so why bother worrying about it? Concentrate on yourself I'd say!

    err yes and no,
It could very much affect the OP's college placement as the people that cheat could get higher point and take college placements they may not have gotten had they not cheated.

As such cheating does affect people that put in the hard work and study, anybody that cheats is only fooling themselves

given this is all over the radio and papers today and an investigation has been launched by dept i'd advice people to go easy on the cog notes

Okay okay this is really going round in circles!!

Maybe people wouldn't feel the need to cheat if there was a fairer system.

This whole "bell curve" with everyone basically being in competition against each other is completely ridiculous. People should be marked on their individual ability not compared to how well everyone else has done!

Also, one or two exams to summarize all of your work in a subject the past two years isn't fair either. And as I've said before, if someone is unlucky enough to get a migraine or something on the morning of an exam they're relying on for college, then that's a year of their life down the drain that they'll spend repeating.

Finally, putting two big exams on one day puts a lot of pressure on people. The night before the exam when they're trying to prioritize revision for exams they need for their course, a lot of people would consider cheating so that they can get the career that they want.

I'm not taking anyone's side - cheating is by no means right. But at the same time, it isn't always just out of laziness either, sometimes desperation because of pressure and having two important exams on the same day can cause it too.

For the record... I haven't and won't cheat, it would play on my conscience too much. I'd like to think when I get my results in August that they are accurate results of what I managed to achieve myself, not with the aid of notes. But that also means that I might not get the course I want, especially if what I am compared to is people copying things down from notes!

If the SEC doesn't want all the commotion every year with the exams, all the alleged cheating, all the media hype, maybe they should do something about the system.

Yes, granted, you'll still get a few cheaters here and there. But many of the current cheaters wouldn't need to if they felt better prepared for the exams.

well OP, you got what you wanted. official investigation today, so some people in your school won't be getting a leaving cert. should be proud.

Nobody will pass their leaving cert?.... pure speculation,

What will happen is there will be a clamp down on idiots trying to cheat, if that means mobile phones are taken off people as they enter the school then that is very much a good thing.

Nobody shoud have a mobile phone in their possession while taking part in a state exam anyway, if after being told this they are found with one it should be an automatic fail imho, between the abaility to call people, text people or just search the internet it leaves too much of a risk to allow students to have one during an exam.

If there is mass cheating happening then it is the fault of the exam supervisers for not taking enough care, for example to check for notes in bathrooms or for phones on laps.

You can blame a kid for cheating, but they're under huge pressure and if there is an easy way to get an edge, they'll take it, just like most of us would in later life and different situations. (Ireland is replete with examples of cheaters in high places, lets not forget.)

One of the functions of an exam superviser should be to ensure that their exam center makes it visibly difficult to cheat, the same way an airport makes it visibly difficult to hijack a plane.

90% of the cheating would be gone if the exam supervisers made it look like you could likely get caught cheating. The other 10%, well, good luck to them on their repeats.
