Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I think he said that Kazakhstan was an obscure place, or something like that.

    He said Torres raped Vidic.

He used the word "rape" in relation to Torres outplaying Vidic in the Premier League a couple of seasons ago.

Better than Adrian Chiles' "apology" last night anyway.

    what was his apology for?

Indeed, it was a slip of the tongue and he did apologise. Bad form if anyone called and complained, none of us speak like we're in a television studio 24/7 and these things happen.

ITV HD cutting to ads during a game and them ONCE AGAIN missing a goal.

Bonkers posted it already, but for those that don't click links for one reason or another...

So stupid that people had to apologise. I've often heard people use the expression 'he got raped'.

There are many more meanings to the word rape than the sexual assault one.

World is gone pc mad when a tv station apologises for a word thats in everyday use in sports conversation like 'owned' which means the same thing.

He only apologised because he doesn't want Vidic to find out about it. :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,235 ✭✭✭Dave147

Pathetic, who gives a **** really? Rape also means to plunder, or rob by force, its an ambiguous word and there were no sexual connotations implied by Souness.

Who takes the time to locate the phone number for RTE's complaints section, and then waits on hold to lodge complaint??
Slip of the tongue, and an expression regularly used by fans when discussing matches.

Alan Pardew said similar on Match of the Day a few years ago and was condemned by overly sensitive Rape Crisis groups for trivialising sexual violence.

Personally I think its ridiculous. Would Graeme or Alan have got the same reaction if they said "he murdered him there"?

The use of the word rape in this context is fine IMO,here is one definition of the word...
an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse; despoliation; violation: the rape of the countryside.

The above is what happened to Vidic in that game.

Some losers must have RTE complaints number on speedial ready to dial the second anyone makes a mistake. Sad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

I hope the apology will be the end of it. It certainly should be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,626 ✭✭✭Stargal

He corrected himself immediately, RTE apologised, and really, it was a silly mistake rather than an offensive remark. It'll be ridiculous if this is even mentioned in any of the papers tomorow.

I think "rape" was the most apt word to describe it myself!

Non issue, it will be ridiculous if people get uppity over a slip of the tongue like that.

Are you allowed say you "were robbed out there" anymore? Or is that trivialising the victims of muggings?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭Kold

Raped is certainly more acceptable than pwned.

    'Goldilocks' Torres

Not anymore, he's streamline Torres for this tournament.

Obviously means business - watch the goals go in by the bucketload now. The fact he got a proper haircut is the sole reason I put a significant sum (for me) on him to nab the golden boot:D
