Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Probably the best match we've seen in the WC thus far.

    Oh easily!

Switzerland have went ultra-defensive now. With less than six minutes left, a draw even seems unlikely.

    5 minutes????

5 mins of injury time. Holy jesus. Come on Switzerland. Hold out.

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,676 ✭✭✭jayteecork

5 mins lol. There wasn't any stoppages from what I recall.

Be bad for FIFA if the most faniced team went out at the group stages.

5 minutes injury time? Did I miss a long stoppage?

Wasn't watching the second half, was someone shot for those 5 minutes injury time?

    Also, typical Spain.

Typical FIFA, can't have one of the favourites out at the group stages.

Bit of a harsh yellow card there?

    Jumping the gun there.

    Still 35mins to go.

    Nobody has lost yet.

i dont jump the gun unlike some people i know:p

Del Bosque really made a balls of it which is very surprising and then bring on Torres who is a superb player but lacks match fitness over Llorente who won the game for Spain against Saudi Arabia is bizarre.

To be fair to your man, he wasn't looking at the ball.

My heart. Seriously, this is what the World Cup has been missing. Exciting edge of your seat moments. This is the first time I genuinely am on the edge of my seat cheering for a team on.

    Thank you Switzerland and Spain.

That's that. Massive result for Switzerland. They'll be delighted.

Navas has been bright, but his end-product is awful

    Unreal result.

    Decent enough game

Its now going to the 2nd round of group stage fixtures. Better attacking football is on the way people!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

    Fair play to the Swiss.

They took there chance and could have even been further ahead.

The Spanish defence looked very nervy and never comfortable.

Navas delivery since he came on wasnt actually that good to be honest.

Not many would have expected Switz to win this, but fair play to them. They deserved it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,590 ✭✭✭jaykay74

Spain for 2nd spot and an early meeting with Brazil maybe :)

Just realised I'm wearing a red t-shirt with yellow trim on the sleeves and blue jeans.
So, must check out the highlights for the second half of this game by the sound of it.

Draw would have been the fair result, but that's football sometimes!

    Torres played crap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,614 ✭✭✭The Sparrow

Amazing result and performance from the Swiss.

The World Cup has officially began to be awesome. Two great Brazillian goals last night, a very entertaining game between Chile and Honduras earlier this afternoon and now a brilliant upset.

Roll on the second round of group games!:D

So many upsets so far in the group stages.

I've a feeling Honduras might get a bit of a hammering in the match, with Spain going to have obviously step it up a gear or two.

Hitzfeld will get plaudits for his tactical nous. I just despise anti football. The end does justify the means but it makes the sport a very very poor one.

    deserved.

del Bosque made a couple of botches, but the players must take responsibility.

Navas was a bit sh*t. lively enough, but no end product whatsoever.

Iniesta constantly took the easy option.

Torres coming on was lunacy. he wasn't fit, and you could tell it a mile off within 5 minutes. he was even whincing in the last 5 minutes. joke.

    Xavi, nevertheless, was still imperious.

how Sergio Ramos gets a game for Spain is beyond me. he's half the attacker someone like Maicon, even Johnson is, and he can't defend for love nor money.

but massive credit to the Swiss. they stuck to a plan, didn't give up many clearcut chances (no matter what Dunphy is going to say!), took theirs, and had the best chance of the game besides.

the World Cup has at least now, got interesting.
