    Anyone else do all 7 from section one?

    I had question 1-5 and question 8 done in an hour and a half. So did part (a) of Q6 and silly me i forgot the simple proof for part (b) so i stopped.
    Went to Q7, did part (a) and (c) and got caught by part (b)

    But I'm thinking I should be worried..

    I thought it was easy as a C average student which prob means I read half the questions wrong?.

    What's the penalty for taking down a figure wrong from the paper (-1 or-3) or something?.

    Ah well, can't do anything about it now?

    =D

    Yes the 6(c) Q is definitely 6.

    I drew out diagrams, complete with stick men:p Made it much easier.

    There are 11 seats;

    O O O O O O O O O O O

    There are 6 people;

    :):):):):):)

    P(E) = Favourable Outcomes
    Total Outcomes

    There is only 1 way they can all be apart;

    I O I O I O I O I O I

    Total Outcomes = 11C6
    = 462

    P(E) = 1/462

    And there's 6 ways they can all be beside each other;

    I I I I I I I O O O O O
    O I I I I I I O O O O
    O O I I I I I I O O O
    O O O I I I I I I O O
    O O O O I I I I I I O
    O O O O O I I I I I I

    P(E) = 6/462

    Therefore

    (1/462) : (6/462)

    6 times as likely!
    That's a mess, and completely wrong, despite the correct answer. There are 6! ways for the 2nd bit, and 6.6! for the first.

    For them being all apart there is more than one way.

    AOBOCODOEOF
    BOCODOEOFOA
    CODOEOFOAOB

    and so on, so there is 6 possibilities for the first seat, 5 for the third, 4 for the 5th, 3 for the 7th, 2 for the 9th and 1 for the last which gives 6!
    For all blank seats in that case there is only 1 possibility so really the answer for that is 1.6! which is obviously just 6!

    And likewise for them being together. Instead of using all I's to represent the people, you need to represent them using different letters which can change. Which as pointed out before will give you 6.6!

    When they say prove it's collinear, I somehow got r=2c, and I said as R can be written in terms of C, they're collinear. Not sure if it's right though.

    I got that and then said that OC = CR therefore C was the midpoint of OR therefore collinear, was kinda winging it! :p

    God theres some gloating people here....

    it was a grand paper i thought

    ironic about the probability (Evan Boland anyone)

    Was a lovely paper!! everything went fine, thought it was easier than paper 1!:eek:
    Do you lose much marks if you write a formula down wrong??

    If it's the midpoint then it is on the line OR so your right :) Anyone have trouble changing from capital to non in Q2? I know some people did but I thought it was okay.

    First 3 questions took 25 minutes total, probability Qs took 15 total, but I spent ages fiddling with Q4 before getting it. Overall, I was done in under 2hrs, all 8 questions.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,062 ✭✭✭DancingQueen:)

    I got x^2+y^2= 20 but im sure its wrong!

    I got that too and I did it out three times :o

    Overall I thought it was alright, few iffy questions that stumped me but it could have been worse. Checked my answers with some here and a lot of them are the same. So feeling better than I did in school anyway : )

    Question 8 anyone?

    Area of the rectangle?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36 roll on summer 10!

    woo!! go vectors! never have to do maths again in our lives!! unless you choose to that is! :P

  • Registered Users Posts: 107 ✭✭mahonykid

    My answer for question one

    1a (x-3)^2+(y+4)^2 =17
    bi (4,5) r=3
    bi + or - 20
    c x^2 +y^2 -8x-4y+20=0

    ANYONE CARE TO ESTIMATE WHAT I GOT OUT OF 50 FOR THAT QUESTION
