Just finally bought CT to mess around with (I want to buy the official release of CS when it arrives).

The game is a much more pleasant experience with just an hour or two to sit down and mess around with it. Pace seems a little slower than expected and I'm mashing tech all the time during combos (I'm sure I'm supposed to be able to tell the right time somehow but not seeing it) but it's fun all round.

I managed to win a fight 10 minutes after taking it online, not sure if thats a good or bad thing.

Have to say I am liking Bang. His drive moves seem pretty cool, although C being a throw-er- throws me off.

To tech throws, you need to look out for the exclamation marks over your character's head -- green gives lots of time (I think 15f?), purple a little less IIRC. Also purple means that it's a throw within a combo.
And yes, if you mash throw-escape, you get thrown.

what about the combo breaker stuff?

I was mashing during combos too and in that case I did seem to air tech and escape, often countering.

Burst (A+B+C+D) can be done during any non-throw or Distortion (Super) - you'll know because the Burst icon isn't crossed out.

    For tech:
Hit either A, B or C to tech, you can also hold a direction to choose where you want to tech. In this game teching can be done in the air (standard air tech) and on the floor (rolling).
IIRC you tech as soon as you leave hit-stun, so if you're mashing A you'll get accidental inputs.

The things work a little differently in CT and CS; in CT, it's easier to escape from long combos, as the hit stun + combo length + time affect the combo, while in CS it's only hit stun + combo length (which is why the basketball stomp works). There are points when you should and shouldn't mash to tech out, most people mash A to tech, as you can get a jab hit out to punish a dropped combo, and most characters have air A or ground A combos to punish with.

Eventually, it becomes second nature to attempt a tech when you know you have an opening. Which can then be baited for a reset.

Bang's C throw is not ment as a normal command throw, like Abel or Tager, it's designed for blockstrings; do a sequentially and tight blockstring 3 or 4 times in a row, then, next time you do the same blockstring, drop it after 1-3 hits, dash in, command throw. As a command throw, it's untechable as long they're out of hit/block stun. Even if they are still in hit or block stun, a lot of people will miss the 1/2 second window to tech as they'll just be wtfing briefly. It's why the Joe special works (a long blockstun move to a 360. It's perfectly techable, but why would you do it?)

Also, green is your small grab tech window and purple is the hitstun/blockstun tech window. Exact figures are 13 frames to escape on a green grab and 27 to escape on a purple. The reasons for this is that most characters have BIG combo damage off their throws, so it's a punishment for not escaping.*

Also, learn to execute instant air nails, they're good mixup; you can do the quarter circle forward and then hit up-forward to do instant air. And Bang's dp motion B at the end of combos; it's sickening what you can do with it in CS. Mind you, bang is quite silly in CS anyway.

Is it something about me that characters I pick get buffed to hell in the game AFTER I pick them?

    The Goddess, surely.

(I'm really getting into this Bang stuff)

Doom I bagsied Bang first. You can play as Hazama. He looks like Michael Jackson in the Smooth Criminal video.

Apparently all Guile players like Hazama.

    I don't care.

Everyone loves Hazama and Bang, I hate Bang. Too loud . I wanna try out Hazama. That crazy Ouroboros thing looks really good for rushdown.

Feel like a pimp whenever I land a BEEES combo with Arakune, is it worth learning combos now?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,302 ✭✭✭Voa

Hazama is pretty awesome, he's the most stylish character in the game by far and away.
    Combo's ain't bad either, if you can get the Snake-cancels in;

Wow, MJ/Red Hazama. New main, right there.

BEEEEEEZ combos make Arakune; you should learn some 100% curse combos though. If you get those down, you will beat anyone and everyone all the time; once cursed, there's a window where Arakune is in complete charge of the match, and all his matchups change to 9-1s for 10 seconds. Without curse, his combos are decent, but even an AA punish combo will only land about 2.5K off a fatal. On the other hand, a BEEEZ fatal will do up to 11k in a single combo. I'd say if you find him mores suited to your style than jin, go for it. A lot of jin players seemed to have died out after the CT-CS change over...

Also, pimpin' Hazama again; his theme is the second best in the game. MOTORHEAD still rules all.

    God that's a fantastic statement.

I find that I generally go for characters that are well rounded, jack-of-all-trades, master of none. I prefer having every option open to me rather than specialising and focusing on a single aspect (zoning, rushdown). I can generally pick up any kind of character and can have fun/learn how to use them.

I want to pick up Arakune because I love his character design, I want to try and learn a complex character (he seems sort of complex with his bizarre movement patterns and button release combos) since I never bother with hard characters, and when you try and repeatedly barrier block without any barrier left, thats just the funniest animation ever.

    Hazama's theme is definitely pimpin'

Some Valkenhayn footage, very little of him but its something.

    I return your attentions to the MoeBlob;

When Tager trolls you, he does 1k with jabs, buffered to 720.
When Bang trolls you, he dashes everywhere, unstoppable and unsympathetic.
When Tao trolls you, she does 4k with a tauntloop, and then taunts at the end.

When Arakune trolls you with BEEEEZ, you die in one combo.

    9-1 to everyone, son.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,707 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

You know what, I'm gonna just learn basics until Valkenhayn comes out.

Because I'm classy, and you don't get classier than a butler, good sirs and ladies.

    Truth.
I win random rounds off Voa from random bees. Now imagine if me or Gory actually understood bees to a higher level...

    Also, I might give Mu-12 a shot.
Just because she's wearing NOTHING AT ALL.

    *edit*

    Cutest fighter ever?

I don't want to look at this in order to save the surprise for when I own the game (or play it at casuals, if I can manage it first).

But based on his plot implications and how stylin' he is in his suit, I wanted to pick up Hazama probably as my main.

Maybe I just think being in a full suit in a fighting game is awesome. Rugal was my most played character in CvS2 even though I had no idea who he was, and I was terrible with him, he was just too stylin' to refuse.

7 foot tall guy in a suit with coat-tails and a panther? Oh yeah.

In CT though I really enjoy Ragna, Tager and Tao.

I'm probably worst with Carl and Lichi.

Fighting in business attire is epic stylin' at all times.

Think I'll wait for CS to come out here before I properly pick up Arakune, too different, only thing I could probably learn is his 6C loop timing.

And his air jump cancels. You want the bird-facing for no-curse damage (gotta take it wherever you can.)

  • Registered Users Posts: 955 ✭✭✭GorySnake

You mean stuff like J.6B - J.236C? I was trying out some combos like that and combos into curse, although the combos I learned wont cause 100% curse but every little helps.

GGs to VOA last night, i have some major work to do =[

Tagers only gotten better dude. Destroyed me well good xD

Sorry about quitting early, wife was tired lol. :)

I don't think I like how Tager and Bang play in CS. Still gonna give them another few tries. Hazama is top dog for now though, then Valkenhayn whenever he's available.

But you know it feels good getting a 720 on a opponent:D
