When he tries to access 192.168.1.254 he gets brought to Ask.com?!

He's not entering www.192 etc he's just entering his motorola router address.

He wants to open port 7500 thats all he has to do.

    Any ideas?

    If he is using windows.

Run command prompt. Type in "ipconfig"

Get the default gateway from there

Open up the run dialog again and type in "iexplore 192.168.1.254" (or whatever the default gateway was in command prompt)

You should then be able to get to the router page :)

eircom don't supply Motorola routers, so this is either something he supplied himself, or something someone else set up for him. The address may not be 192.168.1.254

Would not the fact that he's being redirected to ask.com indicate browser hijacking?

he has probably just installed the ask.com toolbar when he was installing some other software.. just type in the gateway address you get from ipconfig like thelastangryman suggested

no. more than likely he's typing the 192.x.x.x address in a search bar.
tools > ie options > advanced
make sure 'do not search from the address bar' is selected - use 'just go to most likely site'

he may have to type in the address with the http:// prefix to get to it

follow what thelastangryman said to get the gateway ip

Tell them it's broken and they will send you a new one.
