Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This should be a question of how many goals, but I'd love to see something from Korea

An uninspiring, insipid 2-0 win for the Dunga-beetles.

If Brazil go out and treat it for what it should be treated, a WC game, regardles of the opposition, they should turn over N.Korea, if they show and expect just to roll them over and start off with flicks and tricks they might, I repeat might have a tricky game, but you cant look past Brzil here.

    Brazil by 4 or more.

Don't think this will be a goalfest either. They picked up some decent results in qualifying and won't just lie down and take a beating.

    Did someone say twins ............

Say hello to Brazilian twins Bia and Branca Feres who are models and represent the Brazilian olympic synchronized swimming team. Rumour has it they will be cheering on the boys in South Africa. Hoping for plenty of camera action.

Theres no such Country as North Korea. Bit of respect lads.

Meanwhile, North Korea coach Kim Jong-hun bristled at a question from South Korean media ahead of his team's opening match against Brazil. A reporter, speaking in Korean, referred to his nation as "North Korea" in a news conference on Monday - rather than by the country's official name, the Democratic Republic of Korea.
"There's no such country named 'North Korea,' replied Kim. "Next question." A question about North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il's involvement in team selection was then cut off, with a Fifa official reminding journalists not to ask political questions.

    I say go for it.

I stuck a ridiculous amount on them.

No way they dont win this game.

    Similar situation with Spain tomorrow.

If anybody is going to score for the DPRK it's Jong Tae-Se!

Read an excellent interview with him in The Guardian a few weeks back. He said he wanted to score in every game! I can't wait to see Korea DPR in action...they might get smashed.

I read in a newspaper earlier that North Korea had just 2 journalists selected by the government travel over with them to the World Cup,no supporters travelled to South Africa!

Fans volunteer army supporting North Korea
Hundreds of Chinese football fans have arrived in South Africa to lend their support to North Korea in their opening World Cup 2010 match against Brazil, kicking off in just over an hour.

They are knows as the 'fans volunteer army' in China and many stayed in Pretoria yesterday but are congregating near Ellis Park stadium in Johannesburg to back North Korea, who are not expected to have many supporters at the World Cup.

"The Chinese will support North Korea," Wang Qi of the China Sports Event Management Group told Reuters, braving the cold morning air.

"They may surprise and we come here with a view that something magical might happen."

The North Korean sports ministry authorised a Chinese PR agency to sell tickets for the game as few North Koreans could afford the journey or receive visas to leave the country.

It looks like the romance in football isn't dead.

    that poor f*cking country.

    fair play China.

we all want a Brazilian masterclass i think, but i'd love it if the North Koreans managed to pull off the draw, or God forbid, the win (sorry anyone with a massive bet on!).

    i'd go nutty.

There isn't much value to be had betting on Brazil in this. They're 1/9 to win, which is staggering for a world cup game, especially for a match involving a team people know so little about. North Korea - Sorry, the Democratic Republic of Korea - got some decent results in qualifying and they'll be well geeed up for this. One goal, or one sending off and anything could happen.

I've hedged by bets with Robinho as anytime scorer and backed Korea at +2.

"Elano didnt do it at Man City, and he certainly didnt do it at Hull!" - Great analysis from Johny Giles there.

Jong Tae-Se's goal against Korea Republic (using the official Fifa terms now!)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=426YGATBWDw

And the only clip of the domestic game I could find...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiRWZVDMNGQ

Two of their players, keeper Ri Myong-Guk and captain Hong Yong-Jo made the 2009 AFC Player of the Year shortlist.
Midfielder Ahn Young-Hak is Japanese born and plays in the J-League.

There you go, more research than you'll get from RTE!

it's the age old formula i think...if Brazil score early, it'll be a landslide, if not, i can see a 1 or 2-0 only being eeked out.
