Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Big game in the group, battling for 2nd imo. Probably be quite tentitive like the other opening games and end up a draw.

Of course now that I've said it I'll be wrong...

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Cant wait for this match, its the most exciting so far. I'm hoping the Ivory Coast will get it!

Been looking forward to this one. Don't think it will be as tentative as the other games as both teams know that realistically they need a win here to progress from the group.

Portugal win in a 3-2 thriller with at least one red card

Not sure about that. Both sides would probably be happy enough with the draw, and hoping they can improve their goal-difference against Brazil and North Korea. A loss will all but eliminate either team, but a draw leaves it very much achievable for both.

Queiroz clearly does not command the same respect that Scolari did. The 'Golden Generation' has ended and some people forget that.

There is no reason why the Ivory Coast (even minus Drogba) , with all their big league experience, can not win this one!

    Hope they do!

Backed Ivory Coast at 5/2 :)

Expecting a fast paced game here. 2-1 to Ivory Coast with the winning goal coming from a penalty. You've heard it here first.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,179 ✭✭✭RichTea

    Drogba's on the bench.

I expect it to be an exciting game, though no goals.

With Portugal's performance before the World Cup, I just can't see them scoring.

Not expecting this to be a great game.

Watched the Ivory Coast at the Cup of Nations and they were useless.

Portugals best days are long behind them also.

No Drogba really has taken the interest out of this.

He's on the bench. Really wouldn't be expecting him to feature though tbh.

Been looking forward to this one, certainly the best opening match on paper. Hoping for a thriller, I think there will be at least three goals

That Portugese anthem is always stirring!

Could be the game of the round, which wouldn't be hard in what's been a very boring tourney so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,949 ✭✭✭A Primal Nut

Was Ronaldo asleep during the anthems? :D Looked like the keeper gave him a shrug to wake him up at the end. Probably trying to steal the attention as usual.

Edit: Didn't take him long to hit the floor either. Twice already. That was some display to get Zokora booked (deserved but still). On the positive side, looks like he's up for it.

That's how much of a global superstar that man is.

    Ronaldo > Vuvuzelas

For the first time in the tournament, you could hear the crowd cheer above the vuvuzel's when he got the ball.

    So close, quality from Ronaldo!

Said it yesterday this ball is made for Ronaldo.

That's what I was thinking. If anyone knows how to make a ball dip quickly, it's him.

So far it is looking that way. Even his free that hit the wall was one of the only ones that wasn't gng 40 yards up in the air

Unfortunately, like 98% of his freekicks, it hit the wall.

I keep hearing 'T&A' for that CIV defender.

why does Ronaldo have to be so hateable?

i'd love to adore the guy, because we all should. he and Messi are miles ahead of anyone else in the world.

LOL, I did also say that he may knock out someone standing in a wall.

thank god, two teams getting the ball down and trying to play attacking football.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,608 ✭✭✭Spud83

How that wasn't a free kick I don't know. Ronaldos reputation getting the better of him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,949 ✭✭✭A Primal Nut

Bit harsh on Ronaldo - should have been a free kick - and apart from verbal abuse at Demel didn't do much else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,772 ✭✭✭✭Paul Tergat

The ref wasnt booking Ronaldo for the dive there. The Ivorians seem to want to wind him up which could backfire. Im sure Ronaldo was shouting **** off at Demel there :D

Seems a bit harsh to book the both of them. I reckon a ticking off would have been enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,391 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Take him out Demel you looper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,673 ✭✭✭s_carnage

Looked a lot moe clear cut than the previous one. Will have to be careful now with going down to easy.

Yeah I get that. It should have been a free kick and thats it. Ref makes the wrong call and we end up with two players booked because of it.

Yea Ronaldo will have to be careful. But so will the two Ivorian defenders both on yellows with ~70mins left to play and the likes of Ronaldo running at them!

Karma - Ronaldo dived like a couple of mins in and won a free.

    No sympathy.

Oh aye your right, it was a free kick but as said im sure his reputation there didnt help him. Hope the ref isnt too card happy as its shaping up to be a nice game and would hate for a red card to be the decisive factor.

Didn't see it, but its still the ref getting the calls wrong.

Carvalho really is dirt. Proper old fashioned centre back who loves to have a kick

    This ref is hopeless.
