Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

fujipix.ie cropping shots?

Just wondering if it is normal that when you send/upload an image to fujipix and then order a print (in my case an 8x10) that rather than resizing the image to fit the print size they actually crop the image.

In my case it was a shot (I have posted before):

    4670396682_fc4e4e555b.jpg

When I received the print, the Dancer on the left was cropped so that only her legs were visible. Should I have resized the image before uploading or was it reasonable of me to expect them to fit the entire image on the print size I had selected. When I print this at home on my basic Epson DX5000 using either Epson Print or from Sony's Picture Motion Browser, the entire image is printed no matter what paper size I select (have printed it to 5x7 and 8x10). I also noticed that the entire image was printed darker, light on the back of center dancer was much reduced and therefore leg of center dancer was nearly lost into shadows.

Any thoughts/suggestions. Next time I reckon I'll send it to the member here who does printing!

The problem is that the aspect ration is wrong for a 10x8. 10x8 has an aspect ratio of 1.25, this shot has an aspect ratio of 1.5, so in order to print it onto a 10x8 some of the longer side has to be cropped. Or alternatively it could be fit to the print size which would leave borders along both long edges.

Never used fujipix, so I don't know what their print interface is like, but this is one of the reasons I like photobox, they have a neat preview of whatever print size you've chosen overlaid on your image. You can choose a crop yourself by moving or resizing the crop rectangle.

The darkness issue is most likely down to your moniter, although it's possible that their machines are misaligned.

    Daire,

Thanks for the info, don't know why I didn't think of the aspect ratio :banghead:

    Will have to try Photobox.

Yeah, I have a cheapass monitor (both home and work), altough a few friends (also cheapass monitors) who saw the image online then saw the print commented on the darkness, so could be fuji related. anyhow it only cost a couple of quid.

Off to get an aspect ratio Vs print size table ;)

if fuji can print a 12x8, you're sorted.

yep, you need 12x8 or 6x4. Same thing happened to me with some 5x7s. One of them (can't remember now) has a box you can tick to say you don't want them cropped.

Although.. I got some 12x8s done in Gunns a while ago. 300dpi (what they use) and resized perfectly in PS and they were STILL cropped slightly, so unless you're printing yourself you can never be 100% sure.

That's what I was thinking and checked, they can indeed print 12x8.

Yeah there's always a certain amount of 'bleed', anything from 1->5mm or so in my experience, so you have to take that into account where ever you get your prints done.
