    hi all,
i'm going into 2nd year Undenominated Science with the subjects Maths, Applied Maths, and Physics. i'd like to be able to teach all 3 of these to LC Higher, so i'm thinking of doing a HDip after my degree, but i'm unsure as to who to contact to get info on it.
i know i mightn't be able to teach all of them to LC Higher, but what determines what level you can teach at?

    thanks for any help
    whiteman

This is the actual course you would have to do.

You apply to do it like you would to the cao through here:

I presume the science degree in NUIG is recognised by the teaching council but best to be safe and check.

Edit: What is it do you want to know anyway?

yes i've checked with the teaching council and unden. science is recognised.

i'm wondering about subjects - how many will i be able to teach and to what level, and also how far do i have to learn them in my degree (eg 3/4th year) to be able to teach them.

thanks for the responses. i'll look through the education department as to find out who to contact.

Just so you know, you don't need to have an honours degree to get into the H.Dip. If you get good results in 3rd years you can straight into the dip. I'v also herd that the application have to be in very early, around november this year to apply for the course starting in sept. 2011. At least thats what I was told a couple of years ago. Id say that competition to get into the dip is a lot tougher then it used to be. Talk to careers services, they will set you straight

In fourth year you can ony take two of those unless you do some maths and applied maths as half subjects. Possible but sounds like you are going to have an awful third and fourth year workload.

I wouldn't talk to career services but someone in charge of of hDips. Niall Madden would be the person to talk to in the maths department. He'll know everything you need to do. He's gone on sabatical from September so email him before he goes or drop into him. He is very helpful.
