To be fair, imho, Steam seems to have hit the most reasonable form of DRM [if we have to live in a DRM world] in so far as I can play my games on any computer in the world [minimum specs allowed etc]. Microsoft... not so much. Even Sony... not so much. Most AAA new releases on both consoles are hitting the €60 mark. There is NO justification for this unless they aren't serious on digital sales of AAA [to pander to retail] in this generation [which I believe is the case].

Let's not get into the argument of second hand sales. The greed rich retail chain destroyed that for the common Joe. They won't be around anymore, in the medium term. That was their own fault.

Yeah I have no problem restricting retailing second hand sales in some manner, the current model is a farce. But, alas, the proposed models don't seem to offer any contingency for what happens when a game is no longer 'in print' or economically viable.

This is going to go on for a looonnngggg time until an acceptable, long term model is developed that allows us with some degree of certainty to play our games in 2025!

I put SOTC on to download before I went to bed, woke up and it was at 58%. So sloooow.

Really? It downloaded for me in about an hour and a half, maybe 2. Can't wait to play it later.

Did they close them in the end? I thought they agreed to keep them running with the advent of the digital download becoming available

Demon's Souls servers were never closed, I dont know what that guy is on about.

They never closed but they were scheduled to close.

I've got 7Mb broadband so it shouldn't be that slow, but it always is when I DL from PSN.

Same here, I have 25Mb UPC connection and PSN is very slow all the time. It took me 2 days to get ICO for some reason. Demon Souls I got in 2.5hrs though, bit on the slow side compared to to Xbox Live, I can get a 2.5Gb file in under 1 hour.

I was the same when I was with Magnet. Hope Sony sort out PSN bandwidth for the PS4, at least you can play while downloading with that.

Seems to affect some and not others for some reason. I have 8Mb broadband, actually get around 5. Downloaded Hitman and the Sniper Challenge (18GB) in less than eight hours over wifi. It is always very fast for me.

I haven't really had the opportunity to test a fast connection since my broadband is only about 2.8Mb. Will see what happens when efibre is installed.

It's nothing to do with YOUR connection. It's a [artificial?] limit on Sony's side.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,265 ✭✭✭RangeR

I tried giving I-C-O a go last night. I had to stop after about 10 or 15 minutes. The controls are just so counter intuitive. I kept falling off narrow high ledges. Pity. I doubt I'll go back.

Haven't played Ico yet but I have it installed from when I bought it before so sometimes if I have the PS3 turned on but getting a cup of tea or something, I just highlight Ico to have the tune playing. That, Burnout Paradise or Trine 2. :)

    Also:

"In celebration of this miraculous resurrection Demon’s Souls will see a “Pure White World Tendency” from now until January 14. Long-time Demon’s Souls fans know what this entails, but for everyone else it basically means that all enemies in Demon’s Souls will be weaker and all treasure discovered is more likely to be of great value. The Pure White Tendency also opens up new parts of the Demon’s Souls world that are otherwise inaccessible to players. These White Tendencies are relatively rare and overall World Tendency seems to chance arbitrarily (despite the mathematics governing it), so now would be the perfect time for veterans to delve back into Demon’s Souls and new players to get acquainted with the game before it goes back to being as brutally difficult as it usually is."

That article you quoted was talking of closing the servers in 2012 - it then re-opened the servers when Demon's Souls went on sale on PSN.

There is no white world tendency til january - that article was written in january this year and that was when the WWT was on.

That article has absolutely nothing to do with the release on PS+.

I also think those servers are for the US version of the game - open to correction on that one.

Tip for anyone who hasn't played Demon's Souls before. If you see a dodgy looking guy in a cage, let him out... what's the worst that could happen...

I'm not so sure, I put Ico, SOTC & Thomas Was Alone on the download queue at 12 o'clock today, by 1:45 they were all downloaded. It's prob more to do with Sony's servers taking a hammering at certain times rather than others maybe?

There's a huge thread in the games forum for all things Demons Souls related.

Oh my, Ico has a really nice atmosphere to it. I was torn between downloading Ico & SOTC or Demon's Souls with not having much space left, and had to make a tough choice LOL. Really need to upgrade the HDD, the amount of games on PS+ is getting ridiculous now!

Maybe I misread your point, but to me there's a difference between an artificial limit/cap, & a server taking a hammering. I think maybe we both meant the same thing though, when speeds seem slow its to do with the Sony end rather than the users end :)

I bought Demons Souls when it came out but I couldn't stick it, too hard and unforgiving for me. I gave up after the giant knight boss and the huge spider boss I think.

I mostly play RPGs for the story and character options with the difficulty at medium.

I'm gathering you didn't have a ranged attack (Bow or magic)? as both those bosses can be taken down quite easily from afar. Once you get to a certain level and get the right equipment the second half of the game is much easier.

I'd definitely urge people to stick with both Ico and Demons Souls for a while. Demons Souls won't be for everyone, but it is brilliant once it clicks so give it a fair chance before rage quitting for good. Ico doesn't enjoy it's reputation as one of the greatest games ever made for no reason. Persevere - its a short but tremendously sweet experience.

Yeah I had magic and I beat those too bosses easily enough, tbh I found the bosses handier just getting through the levels. It was just a bit of a slog for me.

I killed the first two colossi just there. On the third guy I've fallen off the platform he's on about a dozen times.

I loved ICO, you hear a lot of people saying its just a glorified escort mission but I really enjoyed it. The atmosphere and art style are amazing and for such an old game it really looks beautiful in hd. The Controls can be a bit clunky but you get used to them after a while. I nearly enjoyed it more than shadow of the colossus.

I've barely made a dent in the games I've got from +, started hitman recently and I'm slowly working my way through that, don't know what to play next, so many choices.

I have to wait until my 500gb HDD comes over so I can download all the stuff. :(

Hoarding games is not an easy job!

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

Downloaded Ico and SOTC there last night. Played around an hour of Ico, jeez it gets real tense when the girl almost gets swallowed in the shadowy hole! Every time, im down swinging that stick like crazy. I had SOTC on ps2, but never really played it properly. Gonna dedicate the weekend to these 2 gems. Demon souls is in the download list now too!

The dreaded red light of death has struck my PS3 with my 500gb HD with all my play station plus goodies on it and my demons and dark souls and Skyrim saves! Gonna swap the hd over to my other ps3 format and get downloading this weekend!

Obviously, all your saves are in the cloud? :)

What size HDD is your other PS3? If 500GB+, you could reball your fooked one, then just transfer via cable.
