Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    lovely goal

hatrick for a player who i think shouldnt be the 1st team :pac:

Probably be the worst player in the first two games if Di Maria was not playing.

Stream cut out as he lobbed that in; I presume it didn't go in?

Just in case you are wondering, the lob didnt go in, but a minute or 2 later ARG score on a counter attack

The goal difference could really go against South Korea if they draw against Nigeria but I hope South Korea still go through. They definitely have a good chance still of reaching the quarter finals.

So NOW the stream comes back, just as my boss comes in and asks me about that urgent phone call I was supposed to make...

    would agree with that alright

Di Maria has been a small bit better today but hasnt lived up to his supposed price tag

Working a treat for me, many thanks

Bad news: My Forlan top scorer bet takes a knock.

Good news: My Argies outright winner looks promising.

    They really do.

    Argentina -6 points
    South Korea - 3 points
    Greece - 0 points
    Nigeria - 0 points

They'll be hoping for a Greece and Nigeria draw today and when they play Nigeria in the last game a draw will see them through.

We're set to see a naked Maradona at the end of the World Cup at this rate.

I accidentally put bets on player of the tournament instead of top goalscorer and Higuain was one of the ones that i did before i realised

    Messi's over working things now.

Well it's making up for the first round of matches anyway thus far. Can't see Nigeria and Greece continuing on the trend though but you never know.

    France or Mexico I'd say.

Hopefully, France and they thrash them, a couple of Hand of God goals thrown in for good measure

Solid performance from Argentina going forward but I'd still have a huge question mark over their defence though.

Messi was instrumental in all 4 goals today. Really played out of his skin. Haven't seen him play well for Argentina really but he's really silencing his critics.

Expected more from South Korea in the second half having gotten a goal back at half time but Argentina were top quality.

Probably. Want a draw in that game so hopefully an exciting score draw

I'm getting happier and happier with my pre tournement bet of Argentina outright each way. From this side of the draw, I only see Germany as their real competition to reach the final.

He's had a ton of chances in the first two games. I'd expect him to score but might be worth a bet if anywhere's offering odds.

Higuaín justifying my pre-WC Golden Boot predictions for him :)

http://bit.ly/cN63uv Match report from another boardsie.

Messi was magical again today, surely it won't be long before he scores at this World Cup. Di María was much improved from the Nigeria game. Tévez was terrific and Gonzalo Higuaín got into the right places at the right times to bag his hattrick.

There are going to be question marks about the defending but, hey, what does it matter if they can score more than you?

Higuain got 29 goals in 39 goals last season 27 in 32 in La Liga including 19 goals in 15 games at one point.

Now he is only the 3rd argentine player ever to score a hat-trick in the world cup (last was Batistuta) and the first to score a hat trick since 2002.

EDIT: The first was Guillermo Stábile in World Cup 1930.

5 goals in 7 caps for Higuaín now. Compare that to Milito's 4 goals in 21.

Ridiculous he doesn't have more caps.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,630 ✭✭✭steelcityblues

Well done to Higuain, but I must admit to thinkin he would choke at this tournament.
May still happen in the knockout stages against stronger opposition!

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,527 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

In all honesty, it was probably the easiest hat-trick ever scored in an international match not involving American Samoa.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,005 ✭✭✭CorkMan

I say he won't choke, he scored the amount above this season, and 24 the previous season. I think he has it in to prove himself on the top level.

Only his second goal was particularly easy. The third goal was absolute class, playing a vital part in the build up.

Every season since Madrid signed him he's improved. Scary to think he's only 22.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,005 ✭✭✭CorkMan

I reckon he is the same level as Rooney. Thing is its hard to compart since Argentina have Messi, Tevez, Arguero etc as strikers whiile Rooney is the talisman for england (emile heskey?!?!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

    Argentina are meh.

4 - 1 doesnt tell the story of the game.

Three of the goals had a slice of luck about them to be honest.

    1 - OG
2 - Keeper misjudged the Bounce
3 - Messi effort off the post left Higauin an empty net

I wouldnt have any confidence in the Argentines against a top side.

That defence looks a worry in both games so far.

I have not seen a single team in the tournament that actually look good.

EDIT: Holland are the only team that looked decent though they played pretty rubbish but were not shaken defensively.

you left out the last part of the sentence.

Practically every other top side has looked shakey at the back.

No because they were playing a poor team who eventully went down to 10 men.

Decent performance but cant read to much into it because of the above.

Australia are no great shakes but I still saw enough quality in their players to rate them highly. Think they'll prove it in their next few games. Have real spark and vision in their team and an abundance of talented youth on their bench. Toni Kroos hasn't even got a look in and he's meant to be the next German great.
