Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There was a guy down the south east selling these, can't remember the name of the dealer.

Essentially he was selling the "Ural" range, the CJ's are a copy of them and the Ural's are a copy of an old BMW.

Have a look for a "Ural Ranger" instead, exactly the same thing as the CJ with the side car and possibly easier to get parts for with good solid Russian engineering :pac:

I think you'll all agree that it's a whole heap of bike
    Cheers

It's a heap alright, but not the way you think !

But a URAL - better all round, and parts avail. I was offered one lately for 1.5k.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I looked into this a while back - my idea was to attempt to ride it back, and the fact that they're so old means there's no hassle having the car on the right hand side in Ireland.

The quality of them is all over the place - some of the sellers do complete rebuilds, swap out bad parts for higher quality stuff, rip out the electrics and rewire the whole thing, some of them just slap a new coat of paint on whatever they have lying around and claim they've done a full rebuild. Prices (with shipping to Ireland) range from 3000 dollars to upwards of 10000 dollars, depending on what you want.

There's an American guy, Jim Bryant, of Jimbo's Classic Sidecars who puts in BMW engines into them, but they're not cheap. Even then, the final drive is still the original CJ.

If I was in China I'd definitely buy one, lots of mechanics who know them inside out, availability of parts etc, but if you want one here, a Ural (post 2006/2007 being the best so far - Ducati ignition system, Brembo brakes, and more) is roughly the same price, and the newer ones are actually quite reliable.

I'm still considering the CJ750 trip at some point in the future, but it depends on what happens on the job front, and if the documentation and so on is doable.

Nice - what year? And is that deal still available!

I really want my next bike to be one with a sidecar.
