I have a set of Wharfedale Active Diamonds that must be nearly 25 years old, and I'm thinking they've earned their retirement at this stage. Any suggestions as to what would be a suitable replacement for them? They'll be used for playing music in my office plugged into the sound card of my PC

    Vinnie,

Thanks for the post & I hope all is well (how are those nice Monitor Audio RS8's going?)

Active speakers have fallen a bit in the Hi-Fi world - I remember those Wharfedales well tho - they were a great little piece of kit!

Pretty much the only active speakers we have at the moment are the JBL Control 1G which are active & wireless(ish)

These retail at just £149.95 and to be fair they do sound excellent for the money.

Alternatively you could look at a small amp/receiver with a decent pair of speakers - we could do the excellent Teac Reference 300 AGH300 receiver with the Monitor Audio Bronze Reference One at just £179.95 and that would sound pretty great!

Keep me posted if we can assist and great to hear from you again,

    Hi John

Thanks for the quick reply. Lovin' the RS8's especially after I bi-wired them which really made a difference despite my scepticism :-)

The TEAC might do the job - I have a surplus pair of Q Acoustics 1010i's that I replaced with the RS8's that I could use with it. I'll have a look at other amps and receivers and get back to you in the next few days

    Regards

    Vinnie

    Vinnie,

thanks for that - yep that Teac is a really great Receiver - it sounds great and looks really amazing - like a real old fashioned heavy piece of hi-fi when they made decent kit!

Keep me posted if we can help,
