Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

USA should play in a more positive fashion, and if they do, I think they can get a win!

    Love it.........

Alexi Lalas predicts a "two nothing" win for USA, I hope to god he isn't commentating. :/

Torres starting for USA is a bold move on Bradley's part. He's a fantastic little player, composed on the ball and an excellent passer. His main drawbacks are supposely he's poor defensively. But watch out for him.

I expect Donovan and Dempsey to step it up today. I'm think the US speed will cause Slovenia problems.

I fancy Slovenia to get a sneaky win here.

I can't decide who I want to win this. Help me pick; it's boring otherwise.

That Bradley looks like a really decent player. Rarely wastes possession, lovely ball inside the full back there.

    Fantastic goal. 1-0 Slovenia.

    Howard was planted.

Goal of the tourny so far? Well, SA's goal in the first match was quite sweet too...

Best strike of the ball from range I've seen (apart from Alonso's effort against the 'bar). Could be a good open match this.

    Dammit missed the goal.

Great play there. Great defending too!

About 90% of the time the ball never gets past the first man from corners and crosses. I find it perplexing.

Lovely counter attacking football from Slovenia.

Dunno what it is but this tournament has all the weaker teams getting the rub of the green and taking alot of the results.

    Baffling.

Just when I thought the Usa were going to equalise... Slovenia score again!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,692 ✭✭✭Dublin_Gunner

    second lovely goal :)

Slovenia playing some decent stuff, and the US trying to attack too.

Decent enough game, quality isn't great, but nice and open.

As much as I thought USA would go through this group, slovenia were never gonna be pushovers. Definitely not a 'weak' side anyway.

I was talking about the tournament as a whole but I would consider the USA a stronger team than Slovenia.

I know it was a one on one situation, but does anyone think Howard could have done a lot better for that second goal? It was almost like he ran too much to the striker's left and then dived back the way he'd come from, giving the striker plenty of time to get the ball under his body...

    J.

Wonder if Keegan and Southgate still think England's performance against USA was "very, very good."

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,630 ✭✭✭steelcityblues

Much better than their performance against Algeria!

  • Registered Users Posts: 908 ✭✭✭The Cannibal

Valter Birsa is single handedly killing the USA. Scored the opener and slotted that great through ball for the second.

Oh yeah, I understand that. But Slovenia did well in qualifying, no mean feat in beating Russia. First team to guarantee qualification to next stage. Interesting to see how they'll do against the traditional bigger teams.

That was an enjoyable first half, nice open game. USA looked on the verge of getting the equaliser. Hopefully the second goal has not ended the game from an entertainment point of view

Ha this is great crack. I like this USA team for their general approach to the game but it's always enjoyable seeing the American nation having it rubbed in their face that they just aren't that good at 'soccer'. Most powerful country in the world are ya? 250 million citizens have ya? Never heard of Slovenia? Welcome to football

RTE once again have made a major mistake with their estimation of USA. Underestimated them against England but know have built them up as world beaters.

Aye, have we seen a comeback yet in this tournament from more than a goal down ? No.

I dont know if we will find out just yet as they could rest players against England should they qualify today.

    Get Freddy Adu on

I imagine the American pep talk went something like this "We are Americans, we are not about to let ourselves be destroyed by inferior oppositions. This is our time to show them and the world what we are made of and why Americans are living the dream

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,525 ✭✭✭✭Mushy
