This is what I reckon the 30 man squad will be:

McFadden, Bowe, BOD, Earls, D'Arcy, ROG, Sexton, Murray, Reddan, Healy, Best, Strauss, Ross, POC, DOC, Tuohy, McCarthy, Ferris, POM, Heaslip, McLaughlin, Madigan, Trimble, Henderson, Cave, Court, Fitzpatrick, Jones, Henry, Zebo

Don't think that'd be too bad considering Leinster's injuries woe and Munster's 'established changing of the guard'!

Really think there could well be 4/5 Connacht lads in a match day 23 for the Fiji game if we had anyone bar Kidders at the helm.

Be interesting, I'd be excited to watch in anyway. I love Ireland and always want them to do well but its just gone so stale atm. Here's to a new positive outlook.

Looks pretty spot on. Tried and trusted. Good Job Deccie :p

Serious lack of blindsides in the squad.

    A real concern.

    Bah, nothing new at 10.

Great to hear they're sorting out the defense/attack issue and Feek is back.

Uninspired selection, the inclusion of ROG ahead of Paddy Jackson is laughable

No Paul Marshall or none of the promising Connacht backline - disappointing enough but I'm happy to see Henderson, Kilcoyne and Luke Marshall in there

    sarcasm I think

Cronin's absence from the squad guarantees that Strauss will feature which may seem like it should have been obvious but I almost expected Kidney to mess that up somehow

Hang on. Three loose heads and only one tight head. Am I right that we have 23 man squads for these games? If so, it means Court is still viewed as back up TH. Oh dear.

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

I'm happy with the squad I must say.

Yes it'd be nice to see a young 10. It's my one gripe really.

Changes in the coaching staff are a real positive. Foley has done fantastic work with the Munster defense.

    POM, Ryan, Muldoon, McLoughlin?

There is only one specialist openside and one specialist tighthead in the squad. Mike Ross is going to be flogged again. Interesting to see Foley going to be doing defensive coach and Kiss doing the attack.

I saw mentioned in the Indo that extra players may be added to the squad for the Figi game, but its disappointing that Jackson and none of the Connacht lads get a shot. Its worrying too that none of Madigan/Keatley/Hurley/Jones are included, which leaves an injured Earls as our only fullback.

The first time we are going to be allowed to have 23 man squads and Kidney doesn't bring another TH? I hope he doesn't expect Court to be 18, not after what happened in Twickenham.

EDIT: Woah! No Sean Cronin. That won't please some people on here.

Kidney said there'll likely be a prop and full back joining the squad.

I'd say he's waiting to decide between Loughney/Fitzpatrick/Hagan. Wouldn't be surprised if they start this weekend for their provinces and Kidney consults with Feek on the selection.

Ah for **** sake. Whats the point in trying out 23 man squads when he only includes one tighthead in the squad. So we'll be seeing court at tighthead again. ****ing great. No Jackson, no Madigan, no Keatley, no Paul Marshall, no Toner, no Stevenson, no McSharry, no Henshaw.

It's rediculous that a wolfhounds team has to be made from that squad aswell but theres only one tighthead and only 4 uncapped players. What a joke.

And ROG rides in on the munster train too.

Pretty interesting that Anthony Foley is moving up to defence coach with Les Kiss focusing on attack and as mentioned above with Feek back to help the scrum.

    Has he?

I really don't get the change. We have an excellent defence coach in Less Kiss. When he was focused soley on defence Ireland were incredibly hard to break down. He moves to attack coach which he has next to no experience.

Foley is forwards coach with Munster but will be defence coach with Ireland. Again very little experience (he's been coaching for 1/2 years now?)

They really are very odd selections. Most international teams pick coaches with a proven track record....

I’m just thanking god SOB was not included. Hopefully he isn’t added later either. Let him get up to speed with Leinster.

That makes more sense. I'm guessing that Jones will start for Munster on Friday and if he doesn't impress, Madigan/Hurley will be included into the squad.

If Kidney does add a fullback and prop, the only real issues with the squad can be ROG (and his central contract) ahead of Jackson, and the glut of blindsides included.

So I expect we will frustratingly see Sexton to 12 after 60 minutes every game too , when he is trying to perform for a shot at the Lions 10 jersey.

Please god no injuries and just get through the month.

Toner didn't really deserve to get in ahead of anyone there tbh

Some good and some bad in the squad. Disapointed that there is no alternative out half, but pleased that he's looking to the future in the midfield with the selection of Luke Marshall. He said as much too, on form he could have picked Wallace or Downey but he's actively looking to the future with Marshall so credit where it's due there. McSharry can count himself a little unlucky.

The truth is the real acid test is the matchday selection. I think it will be pretty much as expected against SA which I don't have a real problem with but I just hope that if he does give a few newer faces a run against Fiji and if they really perform then he won't be afraid to play them against Argentina.

There's a problem at FB clearly, however I'm led to believe that there could be an interesting FB selection at one of the provinces this weekend which may or may not have come from Kidney...watch this space...

No Jackson or Madigan but the worst performing 10 in Ireland gets the back up jersey?

Just go away Deccie. And bring ROG with you.

At least we've nailed our colours to Marshall at 12.

    Hope he goes well.

Kidney said there'll likely be a prop and full back joining the squad.

Presume he's giving Jones time to prove fitness but I would much rather see Keatley or Madigan added.

Foley is in charge of Munsters defense. Has been for a while now.
