Im a bit confused with the whole results.. nothing to do with compensation tho :)

I have just completed 1st year Arts and was discussing with a friend also in 1st year in UCD about how the results are graded. Do we not receive 2:1, 2:2's etc in first year final results?

My friend got a 3.8 I think but is that converted to something to equal the normal grades like a 2:1 or 2:2 etc. She seemed to think that a 4.2 is the highest mark you can receive?

If someone could explain this to me or link me to somewhere that it is explained, I would hugely appreciate it! Thanks guys :)

Check the excel file in this post. 3.8 is a first and 4.2 is the highest GPA you can get.
