Sums up France really. If these players played for Ireland like they are playing for France, Dunphy and the boys and the rest of the country would explode.
Whether it is a racial thing, Henry's handball, the fact that they are a bunch of overpaid whingers that are a disgrace to their jersey, they have rapidly become probably the most disliked team in the tournament both home and abroad.
This is what L'Equipe thinks of them:
Under the headline “les imposteurs”, the French national sports daily L’Equipe yesterday begged its readers to “shed no tears” for the France team defeated 2-0 by Mexico on Thursday night. “No sadness, no misery, not even any anger,” said L’Equipe.
“That would be to give too much to these men who don’t know how to give anything.”

I think it is the racist element, that they are not real French. My parents are on holiday in France and went to the local pub to watch the France game and they said the only ones watching the game were the Dutch and the English. They were telling me that no one is wearing french jerseys either and the french flag is not flying anywhere. They said that you would not actually no the WC was on if it was not for the Dutch and the English kitted out in their jerseys. The french just do not seem to care anymore.

There's very little truth in that. France is just not much of a football country and 'fans' tend to wait until the quarter-finals or so to start 'supporting' the team, preferring to scorn/ignore them up to that point.

On top of that there are precious few personalities in the French squad that people can admire or relate to. The previous generation had gifted footballers who played with pride and respect in the shape of Désailly, Thuram, Lizarazu, Zidane, Deschamps, even Henry and Vieira as opposed to the current crop who are widely seen (and not without reason) as a bunch of self-serving arseholes.

As regards the visibility of the WC, generally speaking only scangers and small children wear football jerseys in public and flying the French flag is tacky or Front National-y, the latter beoing the minoroty who would have a problem with non-whites in the national setup.

Any bets on who will be the next to leave the national setup? Malouda would be my best guess.

I would say so too, possibly Ribery seeing as it seems him and Anelka have an issue with Gourcoff. Gallas may also possibly leave, not that hes good enough to play at this level anymore. Gourcoff may leave if he is as excluded as the reports say, I hope he doesn't as it seems that the hatred towards him is unfair and he could become a great player

Reading that back, it may not have been clear that I meant 'In France, only scangers and small children wear football jerseys on the street/in bars'.

Edit: Anelka has denied saying what he was quoted as saying and Evra says there's a mole in the camp who's been leaking false info. Good times!

we dont have a fkn clue exactley what happened, its easy to say that he should have kept his head down and done this and that but we dont know. The general consensus if Domenech is a clown and it seem Anelka agree's, wether he was right to voice his concerns here i dont know but I do believe that France would stand a better chance in the tournament minus Domenech than minus Anelka but then again as I said im as uninformed as the rest of us so...

I dont care what people say about me being a bitter Irish supporter, if this had to happen to almost any side thenh im happy its the french, they are a shambles and yes got to the tournament in unconvincing controversial fashion and once there have been terrible and rife with problems within the camp. They deserve to go home based on everything they have shown the world so far.

Very good post and insight into the French approach to their team. The French expect the very best from their team and think that the place in latter stages is guaranteed. They are very arrogant in their approach to football, seeing themselves as a class above the rest. Ribery was all set to be the poster boy of this team until his much publicised indiscretions. The french public have no one to unite behind, no public face of the World Cup bid. No player to unite the squad and the country. This whole campaign has been a disaster.

I can't blame Anelka for blowing up, the lad wants to win and Domenech is horrendous. He left Benzema and Saha behind and brought Cisse and Gignac, he played a winger in the centre of midfield.

Thats enough to drive any man who cares about the team mad!

Gignac is twice the player of Saha.

According to BordeauxOffside, Jeremy Toulalan had to intervene in a fight that broke out on the plane after the Mexico match between Gourcuff on Ribery. It's a total farce with that team.

Love what's happening to France at this World Cup. It's such great Karma.

Is there any reason why there is hatred towards Gourcuff from some of the french players?

There was some in the french camp calling for Diaby to start ahead of Gourcuff in the WC games. It was a large number of the players calling for Gourcuff to be dropped altogether, most notably Evra and Gallas were pushing for his exclusion. Even after reading the above article I can not fathom why the french players seem to have something against him. His does however seem his inclusion is helping to contribute to France's dreadful play

Rumour is he's retired from international football.

Most people in France seem to think the 'veterans' dislike him as he is known as the 'new generation' of France. I don't understand it though, last year Ribery was saying that playing with him was like playing with Zidane.

    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/football-world-cup/news/Anelka-launches-verbal-tirade-at-Domenech/articleshow/6068264.cms
Some reports have alleged that Gourcuff sometimes eats alone at the dinner table, and that Ribery and Anelka do not like him and pressured Domenech to drop him against Mexico.

Gourcuff was replaced by Florent Malouda, and did not play any part in the match.

In the opening game against Uruguay, Anelka had a clear chance to pass to the unmarked Gourcuff during the first half but chose not to, prompting an angry reaction from Gourcuff who threw his arms up in the air.

Toulalan did say, however, that players should always behave professionally, no matter what their differences.

"We can't all be the best friends in the world," Toulalan said. "But there's no way I'm going to go out on the pitch with the idea that I'm not going to pass to this player or that player."

Gourcuff said after the Mexico defeat that he was being made a scapegoat for the team's inability to score goals.

"It has been a collective failure over the two games. Football is hard when you can't play together," Gourcuff said. "Perhaps I have paid the price, I don't know. I've not had any explanations."

Domenech is a plank. Since Zidane is already in South Africa, and he practically brought them to the Final in 2006, how about telling Raymond to **** off and asking Zidane to be interim manager. Every French player respects Zidane, it would bring a little stability.

Sure Zidane was practically managing them in 06. He was giving the team-talks and motivating the players. The other clown stood in the background looking on

I feel myself Ribery is a lot of reason why Nasri not on squad. apparently they hate each other. Ribery is practically asst manager. Delighted Vieira was dropped because he stands up for Domenech on every opportunity. He did so after euro 2008 and in his autobiography

because why would anyone seriously give a **** as to what goes on the french camp, they are so deep in **** they cant see the daylight

they will be home next week, and ribery and a few others will be disgraced over their underage sex scandal (hopefully jailed), brilliant stuff altogether from France.

That's just sad. Should be jailed for it, have you seen your woman? No way does she look under 21 or whatever. She works for an escort service you would assume they would have done their research. I can't believe people are really that bitter.

All of the French team should go home in protest, they are not likely to qualify anyway so it will not make much difference on the pitch but it should send a message to the French football federation that they should have got rid of Domench before now. All the good will and respect that France generated in the late 90's and early 00' through an excellent football team has been thrown out the window.

I'm sorry but what is all the team going home going to achieve. Blanc is already going to take the post after the WC and sending a message to the FFF, what is the message exactly. Invent a time machine ?

Plus a walkout would probably mean a banning from the next World Cup at the very least.

They need to take a stand and that is all of the squad not just a few players. They will not even give themselves a fighting chance to progress if things stay as they are right now. Domench should have no involvement in their last game, he is about as inspirational as a wet tea bag.

tbh at this stage so as not to cause any further embarassment the FFF should just remove Domenech as manager, its not like the players are going to listen to him anyway nor will he be about after their next game.

Is there any precident for such an action i.e a coach losing his job before a WC/EC is over?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,814 ✭✭✭Nemanja91

Who wouldn't stick up for Evra, he is a legend!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,614 ✭✭✭The Sparrow

Xavier Rivoire (sp) from France Football magazine on 5 live saying that players found out that the fitness coach was leaking quotes from Anelka to the press and Evra confronted them and the training session had to be cancelled. Players refusing to train.

Also, as I said earlier the MD of the football federation has resigned. Rivoire was calling on the Minister for Sport, who is in South AFrica, to dissolve the football federation and sack them all!!:eek:

    This is mad.

While Domenech is roundly considered a buffoon, the players aren't covering themselves in glory either. Patriotism has been replaced by petulance and rampant egotism.
