Fixing SIgma 530DG Super

Right, this got broken ages ago and I'd forgotten about getting it fixed until I found it the other day.

Problem with it is - the plastic hotshoe part is fairly broken up. The pins are all fine, the problem is just the plastic around them - or lack of. So the real problem is it won't sit right on the camera so the pins dont connect properly. I'll try get a pic of it tomorrow to clarify what I mean...

I also get the feeling sending it to sigma to be repaired will cost more than the flash is worth.

Any ideas for DIY ways to fix it?

Two thoughts;

a) depends on your intended use but it may still function as an off camera strobe with a wireless/optical transmitter. You'd need to create a bracket that would cradle it and allow that bracket to be mounted to tripod/light stand. Or as a handheld this might also work. (both of these not practical if you really need it stuck on camera).

b) possibly seek out another broken one that someone wants to be rid of (ebay most likely) and salvage parts making one good one from 2 broken ones. Emmmm.... Just a little careful here in terms of taking a screw driver to them. Isn't there something about high voltages building up inside strobes that last forever and a day? Best do lots of research or talk to someone who knows these inside and out.

There is an authorised repairer in Cork, Hahnel I think, and they seemed cheap enough when I get a quote off them for something.

Might be worth a try is the DIY doesn't go to plan :pac:

@ACD: I already have flash mounts for light stands, problem is, to attach a wireless/optical transmitter to the flash, the hotshoe needs to be fixed... there's no pc sync port.
