Redundancy entitlements for temporary staff?

Hi all,

I've been working in the public service for just over 2 years now. For the duration of my employment I've been on either 1, 2 or 3 month contracts. I know that employees are entitled to redundancy after 2 years but does that apply to temporary members of staff on short term contracts? Not sure how my job situation will stand over the next few months but I'm afraid it is something I may need to know about!

I'm pretty sure places are using these short term contracts so as not to have to pay redundancies to people if they have to be let go?

Not sure on the legal standings but in my company a fixed term staff member has to sign that they understand they can be let go at any time...

As far as I know, once you are over the two year mark you are entitled to redundancy. It may only be statutory but I suppose it is better than nothing!! In the law fixed term workers have the same entitlements as permenant workers - holidays, maternity leave etc, its just that the contract ends on a specific date.
