Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pretty simple question just kind of puzzled me, on my way home tonight i was passed by an army jeep, but it had a black number plate with white numbering... i think it was 98 but i'm not sure  i thought black plates weren't legal...

Just wondering.. ;) i don't meet that many DF machines on the road :)

    Regards Shane

It was probably silver on black which is allowed for Irish Defence Forces vehicles. They don't have to have the county of registration as gaelige either. Dosn't apply to vehicles that have a ZV reg either (vintage).

I always thought it was just a hold-over from the old pre-year/county plates, which were silver on black.

No afaik it's a tactical thing. White reflective licence plates on a miltiary vehicle aren't a good idea.

They're not legal for privately owned vehicles.

Not quite correct. Classic and Vintage vehicles are allowed to use black and silver No. plates.

The law for military and gardai is different to that for civilians. ;)

I used to think they were all D - reg, until I saw a few Mowags with a KE reg.

Saw a unmarked mondeo a while back sitting outside Dep of Foreign Affairs, with DF driver. It had military reg on the front, but civvy reg on the back! Very odd.
