Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This makes it almost impossible for the Ivory Coast to qualify as they would need a 9 goal turnaround in the last round

all depends on whether Brazil beat Portugal and by how much :)

Can't see more than two goals in this encounter.

    I will go for 1-1!

    :pac:

I'd say a few more of the North Korean players might be seeking political asylum after that 7-0 defeat.

Our Dear Leader is probably telling the masses that the mighty North Korea defeated Portugal 7-0 even though Portugal had fancy Nike boots

I don't know where people think Portugal are going to get 2 goals from tbh. Portugal lacked any kind of goal threat apart from a Ronaldo effort against the Ivory Coast and Ronaldo hasn't scored for the national side in about two years. Portugal will either get a flukey goal or a piece of magic from Ronaldo but they won't score more than one goal against a tough North Korean side. They just don't have good enough players. Simple as.

    Prediction: North Korea 1 - 1 Portugal

The part in bold was predicted VERY accurately. :pac:

Poor old Ivory Coast are as good as out really now barring Portugal losing to Brazil and the Ivory Coast giving North Korea a walloping of their own!

Taking nothing away from Portugal, but you have to feel a bit sorry for Ivory Coast now!

Two World Cups in a row, and they get Argentina and Holland in the first two matches in 2006. First two games in 2010 - Brazil and Portugal.

Gutted with that result, no way in hell did NK deserve to loose like that.

Great defense for the first half and I was really surprised by their different game plan compared to the Brazilian game. 2nd half they just looked exhausted, the 2nd goal seemed to completely unsettle them and they simply fell apart.

Feel sorry for them after such a great result last week and the fantastic attitude their players have. Helping Portuguese up after tackles, no diving just pure honesty. It was great to see.

Oh and everyone making the comments about politics, stop reading the sun or whatever other rag you get your information from.

And England beat the states 10-1 in 1950, remember?

I hope you're joking on this one?

+1 to that.. I haven't seen a more honest team in a long time. As for those making political comments, I'm sure it's all in good faith.. nobody's trying to take away from the squad

the USA's famous 1-0 victory over England in Brazil 1950; a result that was considered so unthinkable that at least one Fleet Street newspapers presumed the post-match telegram/fax-type-thing they received from their man on the spot to be in error and published a scoreline of England 10-1 USA.

Looking at my World Football yearbook, with all past World Cup results.

Hungary have the two biggest wins in finals history: 9-0 against South Korea in 1954, and 10-1 against El Salvador in 1982!

CORRECTION: Yugoslavia also have a 9-0 scoreline - against Zaire in 1974!

Well I never knew that happened.....and people wonder why people want England to lose!

Time to wheel out the clichés now, after a defeat like that DPRK will have nothing but pride to play for in the last game... hair dryer treatment from the coach after that performance... flying teacups... putting it up to the Ivorians etc..

That was fun! Ronaldo ended his goal drought, Coentão was terrific. Portugal are all but through to the Round of 16. Now we can all eagerly anticipate Portugal v Brazil for top spot.

Damian Richardson may be the worst commentator ever.

Agreed. Plus he thinks that if he just peppers his speech with fancy words that he'll come off sounding intelligent, even tho what he's saying often makes practically no sense. eg he said one player "diluted his talent" during Serbia v Germany.

"4 'missing' NKorean players turn up to practice

TEMBISA, South Africa — Four players from North Korea's soccer team put to rest questions about their whereabouts Friday simply by turning up for practice. Speculation about the players' whereabouts began building after four players missed North Korea's first World Cup match Tuesday against Brazil.
FIFA denied that the players were missing, and video shot Thursday night by broadcaster AP Television News showed three of the four players sitting on the team bus.

All four — Pak Sung Hyok, An Chol Hyok, Kim Kyong Il and Kim Myong Won — were on the field for training as usual Friday at Makhulong Stadium in the township of Tembisa. They could be seen stretching, jogging and kicking soccer balls alongside their teammates."

    So no defections.

Really, the amount of 3rd rate rubbish propaganda that has been thrown at this team since it entered this competition has been disgusting.

    - They can't watch the world cup - Nonsense.
    - North Korea will edit the feed and change the result - Nonsense.
    - None* of the fans in SA are actually North Korean - Nonsense. (*Some are at least)
    - They'll be put in prison/shot when they go home - Nonsense.
    - The 'dear leader' calls the manager on an invisible phone.
    etc etc

These players have been the most honest hard working team I have seen in years. They didn't dive, they didn't cheat, they helped their opponents off the ground every time, they were as friendly to their opponents as was possible. They fought way over their head and they gave absolutely everything they had.

And yet the media and soccer fans alike have done very little but take the piss out of them, make up nonsense propaganda stories against them and basically laughed at them every chance they got.

Yes their country is an evil totalitarian regime, yes their 'leader' is inhumane and has the majority of his people living in slavery or worse, yes they get brainwashed from birth into this Kim personality cult. But what has that got to do with their football ?

When the USA play do commentators or the media talk about the Christian right ? about nut job racist red necks ? When Ireland play do the commentators make fun of them by referring to Biffo and the other eejits ? Or the state of our economy ?

Hey I've a good idea why don't the commentators and media talk about Nigeria's human rights abuses or sectarian violence when they are playing South Korea tonight ? Why didn't they talk about Mexico's drug war or crime rate for the French game ?

It wouldn't be acceptable with any other country, thats a fact.

Is it any wonder that the North Korean government can make its people think the outside world hates them ? We're doing their propaganda job for them.
