Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    This ref is an absolute tool. Worse than Germany Serbia, worse than Brazil Ivory Coast. Ridiculous.

    I hope Argentina and Uruguay meet each other in the next round and this ref gets the game.

    I'd put money on it being abandoned.

    Haha the irony of yer man waving his finger for Chile, hilarious

    One of the worst refereeing performances I've seen on the international stage in years. What a complete tool.

    Hehe.........

    How many players out of the next game ?

    This ref is a no-nonsense nutjob.

    It's really bad for the tournament too.The amount of tweets I'm seeing from US people and others who are saying how bad the refereeing is and the players are.This is probably the only time a lot of people would watch football, and it's doing a really bad job of marketing it.

    Who was the Swiss coach in 06?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,190 ✭✭✭✭IvySlayer

    Now they have the record, watch them attack like Barcelona now :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,353 ✭✭✭MR NINE

    Thats impressive. Especially considering it includes games against France (when they were still good), Spain and a very potent Chilean attack. Who was their coach in 06?

    He was booked in the first game so he'd miss the next game anyway.

    I want Switzerland to make it to 67 mins without conceeding... then Chile can score. This match has pretty boring though. At least Wimbledon is exciting!

    Switzerland have kept 5 clean sheets in a row at the World Cup, they got eliminated from the last tournament without conceding a goal, they won't be easy to break down. I hope they hang on anyway

    Not the be all and all end for Switzerland. They are basically through anyway if they defeat Honduras.

    Chile still have it all to do against Spain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,592 ✭✭✭patmac

    It's funny but it's not as crucial as it seems a 2-0 win for Spain tonight would mean a 1 goal win over Chile in the final group game and a 2 goal win for the Swiss would mean Chile would be out, so they should be going for a second at least to improve their goal difference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭_Bella_

    Hmm Chile will have to try and get another goal because if they lose by one and Switzerland beat the Honduras by two they are through. This though does give Spain a good chance to top the group if they put in some dominating displays and win tonight by 3

    Theres an awful lot of really crap refs at the WC.

    Are they on commision for cards and free kicks or what?

    Who says they are going to lose to Spain? A draw would see them through.

    How ?

    I thought goal difference was looked at first if teams are tied on points ?

    What if Spain beat Honduras and Chile and all three finish on 6pts ?

    Positive its goal difference first and foremost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,570 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

    That's an atrocious attempt at a finish.

    If Spain do beat Honuras and Chile, and the Swiss roll over Honduras then there will be three teams on 6 points and one will go out.

    Will be very interesting!

    Its Goal Difference, Goals For and then Head to Head.

    Spain will need a win to go through so I think they will go all out... but of course a win is not guranteed

    Here is how it's decided (shamelessly taken from Wikipedia..so it must be true!)

    Tie-breaking criteria For the World Cup tournament, FIFA uses the following criteria to rank teams in the Group Stage.
    1. greatest number of points in all group matches;
    2. goal difference in all group matches;
    3. greatest number of goals scored in all group matches;
    4. greatest number of points in matches between tied teams;
    5. goal difference in matches between tied teams;
    6. greatest number of goals scored in matches between tied teams;
    7. drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.

    I dont get it. Is it coz I asked what the record was when someone had already previously posted it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

    Still a very realistic possibility of Spain topping this group.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,005 ✭✭✭CorkMan

    Hopefully its goals scored.

    If spain beat honduaras (presumably) 3-4 nil like Portugal North Korea today, and beat Chile they might finish top.
