Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello,

I'm looking to buy a bike under the Cycle To Work Scheme, but I'm unfamiliar with bike brands in general.

I think the type of bike I'm looking for is a Road Racer, as I'm also looking to use it to get fit also.

My price limit is about 800€, maybe a little bit higher if It makes a huge difference.

I'm quite a tall had, maybe 6FT so I'll need quite a big frame.

Any ideas to what bike would suit me, that's quite light and where to buy it for the cheapest price?

    thanks a billion,

    Kevin.

    Hi,

I was in your position a few months ago, considering ~800 on the bike to work scheme for a road bike, looking at the Giant Defy 3 or the Trek 1.2 or things in that range.

After getting some advice on here I upped my budget it to the full €1000 for the bike only - got a couple of tubes & extra bits to make up the full 1000, but decided to spend it all on the bike, as the accessories can be picked up in bits and pieces over time.

The main difference between bikes @ €800 and those @ €1000 is the shifters. You go from generally Shimano Sora to Tiagra which is one step up, but the main difference being that you can change gears easily from being down in the drops or on the hoods (I'm a newbie so correct my terminology if wrong :)).

So, if you can afford it, it is definitely worth upping the budget - remember, you make the saving on it, so its only gonna cost you €75-100 more when you take the tax savings into account.

Here's what I got in the end:-
    Corratec Dolomiti

Only collected it last Friday, so will review at a later stage, but so far very happy with it.

I'd say another main difference is carbon forks which will handle the road a lot better than the standard ones

You get carbon forks on most of the €800 range anyway, but agreed, OP should make sure he chooses a bike with a carbon fork.

I'd be happy to spend the full €1,000, as it's a long lasting item.

Any suggestions on new €1,000 racer bikes? (models)

    cheers,

    Kevin.

I bought this last week and couldn't be happier with it. Was €850 by joining their loyalty scheme. I've put about 170k on it in the past week or so and love it.

Can't go far wrong with the Cube for the money. Solid bike and a big improvement on my old Lapierre.
