Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I know feck all about tuning really but I've been looking at a mk4 golf GTi that has a big intercooler on the front among some other performance mods.

I like the idea of the mod in theory but what I don't like is the idea of a big silver intercooler poking out behind a half stripped/ cut up bumper. I'd like to keep it but I'd like to cover it with the OEM bumper. Is that possible?

You'd have to ask the seller really.

Seems that just the grills were removed. Odds are they prob don't fit with the new IC but they could have been removed to flash off the new mod.

While a front mount is a good idea for extra power and they can look nice on that Golf it looks horrendous.

    Doesn't suit it at all.

It looks like it was lobbed on and the bumper was just hacked away to make it fit, looks like a terrible job.

The fmic wont fit the with the normal bumper, you can see in the pic where its jutting out at the bottom, and the normal bumper will restrict the airflow to the fmic anyway making it a bit pointless.

Your best bet is to look for an aftermarket bumper that will house the fmic much more neatly while still looking oem.

As per Draffodx you could look at an aftermarket bumper but the stock prob won't have space.

    +1

I'd remove the fmic before I'd put an aftermarket bumper on

It can be sprayed black and is still effective. ;)

    The other guys are right.
A visible FMIC can look great if it's done right but the one on that Golf is dog rough.

Here's an example of a tidy FMIC install.

there's plenty of space to fit an intercooler in the front of a golf without cutting anything. The pic is from Jabbasport who are pricey but you can pick up a generic intercooler core or one from a different type car (saab or volvo ones are good) and just get pipework made up to fit.

That one pictured in the op looks a joke imo. Uprated intercoolers are a great performance upgrade for turbo cars though especially something like a golf as its intercooler is tiny and hidden in the wing. Although sometimes people get better gains from replacing old leaky intercoolers and pipework with new items.
