I wouldn't take that too literally. In any case, she never said she was a vegetarian - she said she had tried being a vegan, which is an entirely different (and much more challenging) regimen. I don't know about veganism, but vegetarianism probably wouldn't be for everyone - particularly for Hollywood actresses (who tend to diet frequently) who have several children to attend to simultaneously.

Now, for someone like Jolie to go vegan (not consuming any animal products whatsoever - no dairy, eggs, foods made with dairy, etc) requires some major adjustments. If she had made all the necessary and rigorous dietary adjustments, it probably wouldn't have nearly "killed" her at all.

Whatever about vegans, there's an old stereotype of vegetarians at least being pale and sickly, but it's funny how Angelina looks as sick as a dog and like a gust of wind would blow her over nowadays despite having apparently reverted to her carnivorous ways.

I can't speak about veganism, but a well-balanced vegetarian diet provides all the nutrients a person needs for good health. In the case of protein, it's not only found in meat. It's also present in adequate quantities in dairy products, eggs and nuts, as well as in combinations of foods such as pulses and grains. In fact it would be very difficult to design a vegetarian diet that doesn't include enough protein.

But veganism is a different story altogether.
