So I was in an amazingly nice bar,
and I order 2 Franziskaner for me an my mate while we play a game of snooker,
All going well yea? Well get this, I go back to bar, the Barman has the audacity to remember my drinks "same again?". Bull****.
So I hit him up with a "No thanks, 2 Spaten this time please." The guy was floored by this wit-filled remark,
He gives me the 2 Spaten with a smile, and I'm gone back to the snooker from wence I came.

Jokes on him, I did want 2 more Franziskaner.

I brought a coat up to the cash desk to purchase, handed the coat to the mature sales lady.

She takes it, checks the tag and states in a very loud and patronising voice,
"This is a size 10" and looks at me, I'm a little confused at this point as to the point she was attempting to make, I said yes.
And she announces to the entire store "It must be very large fitting 10"

No manners what so ever, regardless of the point I may have been purchasing it as a gift for someone else. Oh and before anyone asks I was a size 8 at the time.

I was in woodies with my wife, busy saturday afternoon and we were buying fencing posts etc for the back garden. I'm 32 and she's 30, but she's very fresh faced and looks mid 20's. We get to the checkout, I mostly don't carry a wallet with me so my wife takes the money out of her purse to pay and the checkout girl says to me:
    "are you her uncle?"
    "huh?" ...baffling comment
    "Father?"
"Eh? Husband" I reply in a normal tone
"WHA'!" she screeches "SHE LOOKS LIKE A CHILD!" at ear splitting volume
other customers are now looking over because of the noise of the checkout lady
"Here Clayere!" she howls to the checkout girl at the next till "Wudya tink dey were marryd wud ya!?"
Claire interjects "Naaow she looks about fifteen."
    "Wats yer secret luv?"
My wife was quite clearly both greatly embarrassed and fuming and I swear I could see steam coming from her ears
"Do ye bath in milk or wha?"
    "No"
"Well jaysus you look about 15!And he looks much older!"
"I'm 30" my wife manages to get out through gritted teeth
"Well you don't look it luv"

I know some of you might think that she was just being nice but **** OFF checkout skank.

I used to work in as a waiter and I loved it,the majority of customers were great craic and usually tipped and they usually put in a word to the manager about me.

I always had the attitude to be respectful to any customer even before I had dealt with them,if they are mannerly grand, if not I still treated them the same as I would anyone else.

What annoyed these people is that they got zero-reaction off me when they were complaining about everything and anything,my reply was always " No problem, sure I will try and sort that out for ya" They are like kids, ignore them and the get fed up and move on.

Over thirty years ago, as a ten year old on a school cycling day out, we stopped outside a small shop in a smaller village in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains.

I wasn't too long back out of England, where I was born, so I couldn't help having some Brit in my accent. It has softened a bit since, but on that day it wasn't pure Irish enough for the two nasty cows behind the counter.

"Can I have a can of coke and a Mars bar, please?"

The two women behind the counter looked at each other and smirked at each other.

"Imagine that", said one to the other. "A ken of Coke and a Mors Bor".

Mortally embarrassed, and being ten years of age I didn't have the neck to tell them to go fcuk themselves. I paid my money, took the stuff and went.

But hey, wasn't it great gas altogether.

I asked if I could have a bag please in the local corner shop after buying some milk and bread. (Was before the days of the plastic bag tax)

Shopkeeper responded with "Do you want it wrapped it as well?"

Otherwise I generally find shop staff ok - sure some are very sullen and need some lessons in customer service, but I haven't heard many actual inappropriate comments.

Myself and my friend meet in town once a week for a chat and a bit of dinner and had gotten to really love this particular restaurant.
So my friend has this weird habit of always ordering mash potato as a side, no matter what she orders (this day it was pork) and I ordered a thai dish with a side of steamed veg (as the lunch menu usually has no veg with it)
Normal enough order I'd have said.
When we ordered the waitress looked flabberghasted and even exclaimed - "wow, all that??"
We were slighted embarrassed but just laughed it off and continued our natter. We're used to waiters/resses laughing at the mashed potato so we assumed she meant that.
Next thing, the waitress comes up with our food and this look of absolute digust on her face, I mean an over exaggerated look.
She plops the food on the table, spilling my coconut curry thingy on me and just goes "Ah, ewwwwww, that's disgusting what ye just ordered there- makes me sick!"
We were just floored by it! We just got up and made a quick exit - never set foot inside the door of the place again!
There's making small talk and then there's being rude and there was no need for it really!

I work in a call centre for a bank and you cannot believe how rude people can be, rude arrogant pigs.

On a lighter note, I was in South Lake Tahoe a few years ago and we were in the local supermarket getting rolls and drinks etc for the beach. One of my friends is a bit nervous around gay people, not homophobic or anything, just nervous haha. He asks the guy behind the deli for a roll and the guy asks if he wants a 6 inch roll or a footlong.

My friend says "Just a 6 inch please"
Deli guy replies "Oh I'd give you 6 inches"

I honestly thought i was going to die of the laughter.

How dare he? how utterly dispicable of the man, I'm glad you and your little marching band have taken a very high moral stance on this issue.

You are funny (if a little over-dramatic.) :D

I didn't call him despicable (or any other spelling variation of that word). I called him a silly man.

I didn't claim to have a "little marching band", or to have "taken a very high moral stance". I said that there are three people who don't spend their hard-earned money there, for what I think is a perfectly valid reason.

I find that there are lots of places to eat that serve great food, and are perfectly pleasant and welcoming. So I choose not to go somewhere that is not.

The garlic bread was lovely though; if you actually like the sound of somewhere that sneers at customers, PM me and I'll give you the restaurant's name. That way you can give them the business.

Be careful though - I have a feeling that that sneering attitude might be catching. I think I got out before I was infected.

    :D:D:D

on the other hand when a barperson places your usual down without asking, its a great establishment.

yeah you're da totally didn't overreact. I worked in a shop for 3 years and the same couple of lads from the theater across the road came over every morning for smokes. I'd have them out before they asked and the lads used to call me "the psychic". no bother their. If someone comes in and gets the same stuff nearly every single day then why is it a bad thing.

I was in the local offy with my friend, and she was buying a bottle of wine on her credit card. The guy at the counter said, "Well, we're not meant to accept cards for transactions under a tenner, but shure you give us enough business so I suppose I'll let ya away with it!" She was mortified, refuses to go near the place now!

See this is why I constantly say customers are f**kin eejits. Did her a favour.

Can guarantee had he said "we're not meant to accept cards for transactions under a tenner"

She would have tutted like a moany little biatch.

have to agree - I think its great if the local pub know your drink - they should do I drink in the same place every saturday night & order the same round!!!

Worst I ever came across was at my local shop. Went in and owners sister was texting on her phone. I wanted to pay for goods soI waited till she finished - oh no she just put out her hand for the money - so I waited for her to at least look up - but the ignorant little "witch" just clicked her fingers at me. I nearly hit her a belt - for F*cks sake where are her manners - So I just walked out while over my shoulder I told her if she wanted payment her boss would have to come to my house for it - and to leave his clicking fingers at home!!!

He never appeared - so next day I met him and paid and said I'd only ever get fuel there again if I was very very very stuck - he's now pleading with me as none of my friends or neighbours will shop there as she did the same to them - but I was the only one to give her wellie

Was in London hotel last week and having a pint with the missus, 2 receptionists (2 asian guys) are playing pool beside us, it was very quiet. Anyway next thing a guy comes in(white), they both greet him as Mr.P so must be a regular. So they just chit chatting for a min and as Mr.P goes to walk to the lift one of the guys goes

"hey, you got a great tan today Mr.P"
to which this guy returns with

"Ah sure you know what its like youself dont ya"

me and the woman nearly pissed ourselves laughing.

    Why should they?

People in the services sector need to know their place. They're paid to work. Many also expect to be tipped.

Don't expect to be thanked for doing your job. The customer is the reason you have a job. You should be thanking them.

And professionality is always preferable to familiarity.
Ohh Jesus if I had a big stick i'd bate you with it, get over yourself!!!

I think you'll find it lodged tightly in Bateman's hole.

Forgive me if this is a boring/pointless post..i just had to vent somewhere!!

Just back from the local corner shop in wicklow and the shopkeepers says "no sweets today eh? you usually buy out the shop with sweets!"

now i may be in a bit of a rut, going up for the evening sweet craving, but i by no means "buy out the shop" with them!!

im probably just embarrassed, it was quite an embarrassing thing to happen! however, i know i would never say anything like that to a customer if i worked there!

If you are offended by that dont ever call to Mcguinness`s shop on main st. in longford town:D;)

I mentioned a couple of pages ago I hadn't come across many inappropriate comments from shopkeepers - but I had one yesterday and this thread came to mind!

Having bought 3 reams of paper in a popular computer store, the shop assistant gave them to me in a single paper bag. Now, not only did they barely fit, but the handles were about to break at any moment. Fair play, the guy immediately noticed and said he'd double bag it. He opened up a new bag and signalled for me to put the first bag (with the paper) into the new one. The new bag ripped as it was too much of a tight squeeze. The guy then tuts and says "the woman should always let the man guide it in".

Usually I'd laugh, but I was with my mother (who's a total prude!) so I was a little embarrassed. I wasn't actually offended or anything, but I'd still class that as an inappropriate comment in the situation!
