Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just looking today at the price of fuel at the various stations I pass today. Petrol was at 132.9 cheapest and 134.9 the most expensive on average! So how long do you think it will take for the price of fuel to reach the 1.50€ mark??? Next budget in December or a few years away? As in 2007 it was 99c until early 2008, when it slowly started to rise a few cent every month, and then the Greens evil carbon tax was slapped on in a recession! At what price will hydrocarbon propelled vehicles become not economically viable for you?

It's only 129.9 in campus dunshaughlin, haven't seen it rise above that there in weeks

It seems to have levelled out somewhat in recent weeks. Around my area most garages have been 132.9 for a couple of months now.

Im sure its only a matter of time tho before it hits 150.

UK budget today will likely stick 5p a litre or more over the next 12 months, this will allow Gormley to do likewise here.

Your way off! The alignment of the stars will be nowhere near right for a fuel price hike on that date and time.

We have plenty of scope to correct the imbalance of excise duty on diesel vs petrol here without risk of diesel being more expensive here than the UK. This to me is very obvious and there is no reason for diesel to be taxed less.

I love the way people complain about petrol and diesel being expensive, then go into the petrol station and buy a 500ml bottle of water for the same price, or more, as 1l of fuel.

I'll drive till the fuel runs out, then it'll be Mad Max time. Don't know if I'd drive a supercharged V8 though, might be forced to go "green" then and get a Prius:eek:

In answer to when it'll hit €1.50. No one knows as there are too many factors which influence the cost. It could be tomorrow.

I say jack diesel up to €2 a litre and leave petrol alone, the better mpg from diesels would make it fair and with more people now driving diesels it makes sense.

    :p

Biodiesel - home brew or commercially bought for under EUR1 a litre, problem solved.

I'll sell it to you for 1.50 a litre now if you like....

The only reason more people are opting for diesel is the better mpg AND the slightly lower price, if you alter the balance back in favour of petrol people will just change back to petrol next time they're changing cars. PLUS as all deliveries are done in diesel powered vehicles a large hike in diesel cost would impact hugely on the economy overall.

True. Soon petrol is going to become more of a luxury/recreation than anything else. But till then I say I'ld rather spend my money on petrol than on expensive food/drink/clothes etc. I don't drink and compared to beer, petrol is fairly cheap and it gives me a similar buzz!!

When eventually the petrol runs out I might end up buying a leccy car or something for everyday use and keep a big fast V8 for the few days I've saved up for. Should be cool though. Its hard to think if petrol prices are going to go up or down then. Maybe due to reduced demand they might stay low or maybe due to scarce resources, they might remain high.

For now, when will it hit €1.50, I'ld say within the next couple of years. Its already hitting €1.40 in some places.

Many ships are. Planes runs on Kerosine.

The vast majority of planes arent, but many ships (which account for 90% of Global goods transport) are using fuels that are almost identical to automotive diesel:
    # MGO (Marine gas oil) - roughly equivalent to No. 2 fuel oil, made from distillate only
    # MDO (Marine diesel oil) - A blend of heavy gasoil that may contain very small amounts of black refinery feed stocks, but has a low viscosity up to 12 cSt so it must not be heated for use in internal combustion engines

MGO is actually closer to Road Diesel than MDO. MDO is effectively dead these days due to sulpher limits.
MGO is now being blended with BioDiesel to reduce the emissions (which are pretty bad) too.

Jet fuel is probably closer to diesel than petrol. Way off thread but a jet engine can actually run on very fine coal dust. Moot point anyway as the final leg of ALL deliveries is done in diesel powered vehicles.
