Then I wouldn't expect to have this new service until 2014 if that's the case. I can't understand why a technician has to install a modem in all cases when a lot of customers are capable of installing it themselves, plus it would speed up the process.

the reason they have a technician do the install is because the new modem will connect to your phone line with a rj45 plug instead of the rj15 you have at present that means your eircom box in your house has to change:D

They have to check the lines are stable for the new service and I think they are taking requests to allow the client choose where the ntu would be placed, i.e. closer to a tv (in the living room space) in case the customer wants to avail of Eircom's television service in the future or for some other personal reasons.

The technicians will also change the faceplate on the ntu's in houses that don't have the double faceplate for phone/bb(that's for us;our line would be decent).

So they'd also have to check with the modem and test the connection.

Ok so this realistically is going to be a slow process.
I registered interest a while ago and received an email saying they'd be in touch shortly..... Still waiting

Yep. We don't know what the lead time is for this process. But hopefully we can gather that information from all of you in Drogheda. I registered my mate, who lives up in Whitethorn Park (beside Cross Lane), at the north-side of Drogheda. That was about a month ago. They got a notice that they'd be contacted by a technician on Monday. I'll contact him later next week to find out if the technician arrived or not and how long it takes.

    Cheers for that.

The main reason I really would like this installed asap is my better half works from home and when she's on line and I decide to go into my laptop it kicks her off line. Video streaming is so slow too .
I'll keep on to eircom especially if the distribute cabinet in Deepforde is turned on and up and running.

I registered about 4 months ago and never heard anything back. I rang Eircom last week on something else and got them to register me again on their system. I'll let you know when I get word.

Anyone know what the story is for those in Grange Rath?

Also, what if you are a customer of Vodafone who use Eitcom's landline?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 122 ✭✭ferpur

I spoke to my isp (magnet)yesterday they said they have 30000 addresses so far but that mine is not one of them they seemed to think that eircom is rolling out phase 1 addresses first
I am in five oaks by the way

P.S I'm in Deepforde and I really hoping its launched Monday. It's poor at the best of times.
Your on Colpe Cross Exchange, no eFibre for you yet even though the FTTC cabinet has been installed in Deepforde for months. (To the left as you exit the estate).

Not on the map. No sign of a schedule date either. It seems crazy as there are 2 FTTC cabinets in Grange Rath since last August.

Unreal. I'll give them a call later today and see if I can get someone whom knows what's going on, or what the schedule is going forward .

Five Oaks isn't live yet despite being on the Drogheda (DBC) exchange. Was told it should be live in the next few weeks. I guess they haven't finished commissioning all of the cabinets yet.

I would say they are switching on the cabs in a phased method so they do not get overwhelmed I just wish they would let us know:confused:

Just contacted eircom as I am showing in the activated area of map but showing unavailable to my number on the site. Agent moved me around to different departments and eventually informed I was able to upgrade now. I was transferred to the department dealing with upgrades who said they would ring me straight back (AN HOUR AGO !!!)

I live in Grange Rath and I was really looking forward to finally having fibre today but it seems it could be another while yet. The salesman I signed up with guaranteed me the estate would switch over today. I did have vodafone 24mb (12.6) and switched over to eircom about six weeks ago in anticipation of the fibre. They messed the first bill up and had me on a different package than i signed up for as the internet was still with vodafone. I have written three letters to them to try and resolve this situation but I'm getting nowhere.

Similar story here although we only get 3MB here. I had to get onto customer support and they claimed it was a fault in the end. sails guy who called looks like he would have said anything.

I'm in Castlewood. Moved from vodafone, Apparently vodafone are still locking up my line with a port sharing device so eircom cant upgrade it!
I have now requested vodafone remove this but it may take a couple of days!!

Cabs are still being commissioned, might be a bit of a wait but at least you can ask others what the service is like before you go for it.

As posted on the Fibre Roll out thread, any cab that is fully commissioned with have a yellow tag sticker on it. I had a quick look last night at some of the Cabs on the Dublin Road and the only one I could see with the tag was the Wheaton Hall cab. Anyone else notice which have and haven't got a tag?

27th of may now and still cant get Vodafone to take there LLU off my line so Eircom cant switch me over. Now Eircom are telling me that I am not an eircom customer until this is done????? I have already moved all my settings on my modem and as far as I know I am working off the eircom server. Cant understand how hard it is in this day and age to move provider. When the sales people call and sign you up you expect them to do the work.:mad:

When the new fibre cabinet (VDSL) goes up beside them, it'll have fibre in the ducts all the way from the exchange (under the roads) and It'll be connected to your ADSL cabinet ONLY if you have subscribed to the new service.
While I don't doubt for a moment this is what Eircom plan to do, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to be maintaining two sets of infrastructure, fibre-optic cable for those who adopt and copper back to the exchange for those who don't.

For what it is worth, I live in Stameen and on contacting Magnet I was told that this already outdated technology (FTTC) won't be available to me until Dec 2014 at the earliest, so I'm stuck on steam-powered and highly-overpriced <2Mbps for a while yet.

Given that the guys doing the civils dug a trench across the entrance to Stameen, I suspect that the cabinet will be connected back to CLX (Colpe) and not DBC (Patrick Street). I tried to get a straight answer from Eircom about this but so far I have met with nothing but obfuscation.

Are you thinking that Stameen will now be moved from the DBC exchange to the CLX echange? There are 3 Cabs closeish to Five Oaks that could be serving us, Stameen, Roschoill (the closest) and Beaubec. If you're right about Stameen I really hope Five Oaks is connected to the Roschoill cabinet. I've been waiting to see an Engineer about to try and get some real info. They usually are fairly forthcoming with the low down on what's going on.

There are two reasons why a trench would be dug across the roadway at the entrance to Stameen, one is that the fibre that will serve the new cabinet will come from CLX, the other is to provide power to the cabinet. To be honest, I didn't see what was buried in the trench, but I did see fibre being pulled along the stretch of road from Stameen going towards CLX.

This morning I noted that the cabs at Beaubec and Stameen are still not stickered (commissioned), but the one at Wheaton Hall is. I wasn't aware of any cab at Roschoill. Where exactly is it located?

I've also been waiting to catch an engineer, because, as you say, they seem to be among the few in Eircom willing to be up-front about what is really going on.

If this was the case then I am thinking there would be 2 possibilities. 1, new numbers would have to be assigned to anyone wanting Fibre + POTS if being connected to CLX or 2, only naked vDSL will be offered to anyone on that cabinet. It also means that anyone on the Stameen cab will be lumped in with the rollout for CLX which would seriously suck.

There is also a sticker on the Bryanstown cabiniet. The Roshoill cab is in off the road to the right had side of the Flogas yard. You'll see the old cab facing the road but the new one is in behind the hedge there. I haven't had a chance to look and see if there's a sticker. I think there must be though because Roschoill shows up on the address checker which makes me think Five Oaks is not connected that that cab. Our only hope now is that we are on the Beaubec cab if Stameen is getting moved to CLX.

There are 3 cabinets that I am aware of in Grange Rath, they all have yellow tags. There must be more cabinets in the estate, as each cabinet is supposed to serve 150 customers.
    • CLX1 001A
    • CLX1 002A
    • CLX1 003A

No sign of the service being offered in Grange Rath.
The cabinet in Deepforde did not have any yellow tags around 3 or 4 weeks ago, though that may have changed.

Fingers crossed it's the Five Oaks Cab so. Thing is, Roschoill addresses show up in the address checker (151 of them) which makes me think that the cab is live and if it's not live then maybe there is another Cab feeding Roschoill????

Eircom guy called to the house last night trying to entice me into taking up fibre. At the backend of Wheaton Hall he reckons I would get 20-30 mbps as I am that far away from the cabinet. Cabinet as we all know is on the main road, and even the nearest house to that cabinet is 100 meters away I think. I read above that each cabinet serves 150 homes. Wheaton Hall has 200+ homes if I remember correctly, and then there are businesses like the clinic, pharmacy etc too. And I see GrangeRath has three cabinets. Hmm good for them I suppose, I am not jealous - just sad that internet will remain relatively sh1t for Wheaton Hall residents, for ever...! :(

Hmm switched back to eircom from Vodafone on the 13th May, phone line transferred back but no sign of broadband being switched back, was told it's all done in 10 days! Me arse am still waiting was told if you havent heard anything by the 6th June get back to us..living in bryanstown manor, no efibre for me yet.

PS: Just counted WH on Google maps and it's close to 360+ houses, 8 x 4 (?) apartments, WH clinic, dental practice, pharmacy, academy/creche and retailers = easily 400+

the Roschoilll cabinet only serves Roschoill, there are already a few VDSL installs done in Roschoill already.

Is that definitely the only cabinet in Roschoill? So the mystery continues as to which cab does Five Oaks. It's either Beaubec or Stameen at this stage. OR maybe there's no Cab for us at all and it's just a junction box in the ground somewhere and we'll never get decent broadband. Eircom suck!

I know but it's still just 1 cab for vDSL. If there were 2 vDSL cabs there might still have been a chance the one at the front of the estate was feeding Five Oaks also. Plus no sticker on that cab so the sticker = live idea is wide of the mark if there are live cabs with no sticker!

It also seems addresses in Beaubec can get vDSL even though the cabinet hasn't been marked as commissioned.
