Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The other game is a cracker by the way. So lovely attacking mayhem. They ain't going for a draw.

Seems it is for the elbow then!

I thought he had sent Cisse off the way he was reacting,

    never a red though,

but as others have said, this karma thing is mad!

    Ah ok it's Gourcuff.

Slightly more understandable but I don't think it was worthy of a straight red.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 634 ✭✭✭pierrot

Seriously dangerous jump, elbow out forward with his full weight behind it. Could have broken the guys jaw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,555 ✭✭✭Gillington

    Never a red

I can understand why, very dangerous elbow. Harshhhh sending off.

    Bloody card happy refs.

They should just get rid of tackling, jumping and runnign around.

Tie each player to a spot on the pitch and play it like that table football game where each player was on a spring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,584 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

Full weight? He didn't streamroll the guy he just jumped.

Yellow card, definitely. Red card, no way. Bull**** refereeing tbh

Disgraceful decison. Can't even jump properly anymore.

These World Cup referees are a ****ing disgrace. Thought it was Cisse sent off for a second and I wasn't shocked either because the standard is that bad.

not a red... how many jumps did we see like that in the australia ghana game?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,983 ✭✭✭leninbenjamin

Ah, replays are pretty clear, he led with the arm going into your man's head. That's reckless play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,369 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    wow.

that is, no joke, the single most ridiculous decision I have seen in a long, long time.

soccer has officially become a farce.

so, let me get this straight, you're now not allowed jump. there was no follow through, anything, with the arm, it merely leaned into his face.

    ugh, i give up.

Only a yellow because of the result as well.

Aye, they should all have their arms tied to their sides before they go onto the pitch.

You just can't lead with your elbow like that. Personally, I don't see it as a straight red but I certainly can see the reasoning behind it.

What else can go wrong for France? I wouldn't like to be on the French plane flying home.

He "led with the arm". Because apparently most people don't move their arms when they jump, seems to be how the rules are made.

one question was the player on the ground injured from sa as a result of gourcoff or cisse

This refereeing is a disgrace, for flip sake you can't even jump for a ball anymore. Another game ruined by wanker referees.

Didn't say that, that would be silly, they wouldn't be able to play football.

However driving your forearm forward into the jaw of an opponent is dangerous, no?

Jesus this WC wil lbe remembered for some shocking referee decisions, and we could have seen one of the worse at any WC.

Total joke, regardless of what team you support or hate.

Also there goes any conspiracy theory out the window, very, very unlikely the French will get anything from this now.

Ah come on theres using your arms to help you jump and then theres diving forward elbow first with momentum, if I was the defender there Id be very disappointed had the ref not gave him a red. People are getting away with elbows too often recently claiming they were using their 'arms' to jump, its an area where defenders need more protection.

He led with the elbow. Big difference in hitting someone in the head with an elbow than hitting them with the flat of the arm. Ask a friendly MMA practitioner for a demonstration if you wish :D

What else can they do? Forearm or hand? Can't see them wanting hands in the face and forearms are as bad as elbows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,614 ✭✭✭The Sparrow

There is definitely a difference between jumping using your arms for leverage and leading with your forearm or elbow. He lead with his elbow.

Are the people saying it is a terrible decision arguing that it wasn't a foul at all or just that it wasn't a red card foul?
