I'm selling my car to free up some cash and I'm going to get a little run around car for around the 1000 mark.

    Any recommendations?

I like : Mitsubishi colt, Civic, Ka, Ibiza, Polo.

I only want a 3 door car :) Hate 5 door for some reason :D

Ka would be decent and pretty simple if something does go wrong. I'd avoid an Ibiza or Polo and that end of the market. Colt s are horrid to drive in basic 1.3 form

Its a colt I'm selling and I like it to drive so was thinking an older model :)
    Was looking at saxos also...

Also the Ka seems to come still with a built in cassette player! Would it be easy to put a stereo in, given its so built in.

    Maybe this Colt
    http://www.cbg.ie/Car_Detail.aspx?ID=3822524
You could get it for less than that price with haggling.
    Or this Polo.
    http://www.cbg.ie/Car_Detail.aspx?ID=3687123
Bit more change and you could pick up a drivers door from your local breakers if you wanted.

Would prefer the new shape polo (long shot but i'll try)
The colt is nice-- think it has bodywork damage on the passenger side according to the ad.
This is the damage on the side:

How much to fix that do ya think?

Rip off no...simple economics, supply demand.

Civics are very popular with boy racers hence demand pushes the price up, I don't think you could get a decent 3 door civic for 1000.

Tenners worth of petrol and a box of matches

    :)
I like the purple one but seeing as my haggling skills are atrocious, I very much doubt I would get them down to 1k! :D

    any thoughts on a saxo?

On a €1000 budget there is no such thing as a reliable brand. You need to judge each individual car you look at on it's own merit. Make sure to have someone mechanically knowledgable examin it.

With regards to NCT, would you buy a car that justhad 1 year left or would you only buy one with a new 2year one?
I'm always a bit turned off by the fact some have 1 year as I think they're just gonna collapse on me :S

Wouldnt cost an arm to put that right in fariness.. I woulnt knock a decent car over something as trivial as that.

But as they say "horses for courses"

Buying back the standard accord suspension parts? I'm assuming it's more than just the springs that were changed in that. Not to mention the added wear and tear on the car from being over firm on rough roads.

Re the Civic - In my experience poorly modified cars tend to suffer from neglect. The one in that pic looks fairly rough, might be worth further investigation, but I wouldn't be holding my breath for that one.

    Whatever about holding your breath..
I certainly would hate to be trying to sell you a "Decent " car for A weekends drinking money

In fairness.. what do you expect for that sort of money :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,746 ✭✭✭✭Misticles

    True- I'd stretch to 1200.
See my old civic.. sigh.. it was stolen.. would of been I suppose what you class as a poorly modified car ha

I loved it.. sideskirts, exhaust etc :D I miss her and kind of want her back but don't want one thats rough!
Has anyone looked at the white colt? has side damage? looking to see if anyone would know the around about cost of putting it right..

You'll get feck all alright for that kind of money, but no point in settling for a bag of crap that might cost you either.
This might be worth a peek:
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1361730

This looks very tidy, definitely worth a look.
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1276033

Hard to tell much from this add, but looks unmolested and clean, worth a gawk anyway.
