    What's the most accurate way to calculate this. It really has a big effect on overall rating. Working on a Ber with 1970s house with 9 inch cavity block wall and solid floors.

    Generally for existing houses you should use the table in Appendix S, but you can calculate it manually if you think it'll give a significantly different result.

    First figure out which internal facing elements are thermally massive, e.g. plastered block walls, concrete floors, etc.
    Then calculate the sum of their areas, i.e. for internal partitions include both faces but exclude doors.

    Divide the area above by the total floor area to get AmAf.

    Compare with Table 11.
