I never got around to playing it as I was using a SDTV at the time it was out. I was thinking of picking it up before the sequel comes out, but I'll probably just go straight to DR2 at this stage.

I still pop it in every so often. I liked the save system, it ment I payed more attention to what i was doing. for easy on the brain killing, it was perfect. Zombies bad. Stay alive. EOS!

if you owned an rgb scart for your SDTV, the writing would have been perfectly fine. i played through Dead rising with an SDTV, it was grand.

Jeez I forgot how much I loved this game.

    Can't wait for the sequel.

Just started playing this at the weekend....

I tried it once ages ago and gave up due to the save system....

Now I am playing it properly, playing and getting as far as I can and saving and quitting when i fup it up and restarting with my new found knowledge and stronger character.

    Great Game!

Been feeling the urge to go back and give it a go again actually. Like other people I had a SD set at the time but still enjoyed it. Just recently got a new HD and always told myself I'd pop this in for a test-play.
Mowing down thousands of freaks in the CD2 Demo definitely got me pining for Dead rising again :)

Its a great game. Lots of people can't abide the save system but I found it added to the atmosphere of the game. Not having checkpoints or autosave was refreshing although it could also be infuriating before your character got levelled up. Anytime you pass a save point always pop in and you'll not waste much time and will be better off for it.

The game really does get easier with each play as your character levels up.

Has anyone here gone for the Zombie Genocider Achievement?

I decided I would go back and try and get it for the laugh. It's pretty good in that going for it also enables you to level up Frank pretty quick but that said it's turning out to be a hell of a timestink...

On one play through right through into overtime mode I only killed 5000. Zombie Genocider Achievement would take me an age.

The Zombie tunnels under the mall is probably the best place to get this, only problem is if the car or bike breaks, you could be totally screwed as its wall to wall zombies down there.

Was it the fact that it had a manual save system that annoyed people? I remember it being a criticism I didn't really understand!

I got it, I just drove back and forth in the underground area. It took a while, I remember listening to a Prince album as I did it!

I loved DR, I'm gonna go back and try to get 1000 before the second game comes out...

I think it was that save points were limited and hard to get to when first starting the game and with the low level character people got their asses kicked.

When I first played it, I didn't know you could (and probably supposed to) start again with the same level character when you got killed, and kept loading and trying again.

They are sticking with the time constraints and save system for DR2 afaik.

Yeah the low level Frank with Limited storage was a real tough start to the game but once you started leveling up it got much better.

I used my first play through to mess around and get the hang of things, I had no plans to attempt the story until I had a stronger character.

As for the save points I remember the first time I wanted to save I thought I had to run back down the corridor that everyone fled into when the Zombies broke in... yes the one that Otis sealed off. Needless to say I died halfway down and never made that mistake again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,618 ✭✭✭Mr Freeze

I did the same thing....got to the door, realised it was sealed and had to go back through the zombies again.

I dunno about trying to get the 1k in this game, Frank The Pimp is a mad one, simultaneously escort 8 women to safety, the most people I ever managed to escort in the game was 4, even giving them uzi's and katana's I found it tough.

You have to hand it to the developers of this game, some of the achieements are quite creative.

I saw a guide on youtube on how to do this and have always been tempted to try it... and might just...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,618 ✭✭✭Mr Freeze

They are some mad achievements alrite, Snuff Shot A & B, got one of them accidently
Jessie, just took a photo on the zombie jessie, I thought it was gonna be a boss battle
, dunno what the second is.

I was stunned with the Zombie Genocider Achievement, kill 53K+....

I doubt I will go after any of those achievements, I might try another play through and ignore the main missions & just rescue people...

I still see Dead Rising retailing at around 25€ in some places. Crazy considering it was one of the original launch titles, if I remember correctly?

Bought it, tried it, didn't like it as much as I thought I would have.

I did that on my first.
It's funny doing a second playthrough and focusing on specific goals as apposed to rescuing people.

    You'd be running through the Mall when you see someone being chased by Zombies screaming for help. However rather than rescue them Frank's like;
"Sorry but I'm going to have to leave you to be eaten by Zombies, I'm too busy stocking up on Katanas and Wine Bottles so I can go back into the maintenece tunnels for a 20G achievement."

As for the price I picked up a second hand copy for €18 last year but I saw it in HMV new for that price over the weekend. It might have been one of the launch games but it's still one of the best. You should try it again brokenlaptop

all this talk of this game is giving me a hankering for it again. I never got the 2 snuff shot Achievements which bugged me and I'm fairly sure my character is quite close to top level. If I see it for a tenner or less I'll dive back in ahead of the new game.

I Think we should all dive in to this again, add each other get into a party on xbox live and give each other tips while playing:D

Ah. Went back to the game recently.

I got it with my XBox in 2006, hated it - just got frustrated with Otis, the save system and always getting clobbered by the Psychos or just the density of the people you're trying to save.

Anyway, playing it recently, it started off better - but the same frustrations kicked in again and it was a choice between turning off the game and never playing it again, or buying a new television (as I would have thrown my controller through the telly).

I chose never to play the game again - it's a pity because I really wanted to like it (the humour was good and loads of zombies to wade through), but I couldn't get past the frustrations.

Didn't mind the save system once I got into it...

The Psychos were a pain alrite, until you are a high enough level to beat them easily.

And no argument either when it comes to Otis, what a pain in the rear he was. Nothing more annoying that taking a call from him, reading a few lines of text, get hit by a zombie, kill it, take call again "Hey Don't Cut me off like that again".....

Sorry OTIS, on the phone while fighting zombies aint easy, hope the guy in DR2, has a decent phone, with a loudspeaker or just gets texted updates that you can read whenever.

For me it was the fact that you save the game, in the one available save spot if I remember correctly, and then 30 seconds later realise that it's impossible to reach the next goal in the allocated time, and you need to re-start. Again.

Other than that, it was pretty good, shower head was my favourite weapon :D

Booya, I got the Zombie Genocider Achievement last night.
In doing so Frank has advanced from lv23 to lv39.
He now struts around the Mall bullying all the Zombies in his way.

I'm going to finsih the 72 hour mode I am in and mop up some more achievements before doing a proper play-through with Invincible Frank :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,618 ✭✭✭Mr Freeze

    Invincible Frank???

    Surely you jest!

    Yeah I jest.

At level 39 he has much more health, moves quicker and his attacks are stronger (and you get new moves too) plus the inventory goes up to 10 places (lots of wine and weapons to carry). Though not invincible it's a hell of a difference from when you start out.
