€6500 for an '05+ - Any advice?

The folks are looking to update my dad's car. Currently he's driving a 1.6 Laguna (yes, I know :rolleyes:). Mainly used to drive to/from work about 10 miles away but occassionaly used for other stuff like pulling his fishing boat, trailer and/or five family members from place to place.

Right now they're looking at a Nissan Primera, can't tell you much more than that as I've not been home in a while. Ideally he'd like plenty of boot space, power to pull stuff he does at the minute and maybe, if at all possible, a little more height than the laguna because it goes fairly deep into the water during the winter when pushing the boat out.

I don't know how he feels about Jeeps which would obviously solve point #3 but any suggestions on decent, reliable vehicles would be great

Annual Mileage maybe 15k km a year, no preference on petrol or diesel, maybe leaning more towards diesel though with the current prices.

*Edit: Hatchbacks only, he's fussy

I know it's already mentioned but

DO NOT LET HIM BUY A PRIMERA !!!

Renault took over Nissan several years ago. Since then all Nissans use Renault technology & mechanicals. The last Primera (no longer manufactured, thank god) is well known for it's unreliability.

The best value for your Father at the moment seems to be either a Mondeo Diesel or an Avensis petrol. Just look at any Taxi Rank to confirm this.

Looking at the other options now, some nice cars amongst that lot for his taste

How about an estate so. You said lots of room. I think you should have a look at an octavia:D

I dunno if estates are up his street, kinda like jeeps/suvs. But he'll broaden the horizons if he can't find a nice hatchback
