Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone who says Thierry and co should have put their hand up (for a third time that is) has to say the same of the german goalie.

When the man in charge of football worldwide defends the Henry thing, do you think he will really care if England don't get through on the back of a ball that has/has not crossed the line? Do you think he would be saying that the keeper should hold his hands up and say it was a goal, of course he should but he definitely will not.

Its a good point & to be honest, im not sure how i feel about it.
Getting cheated by france hurt lots, but there is a certain, you never know what will happen aspect to football that I would hate to lose.
I think on balance - video reffing just edges it, but after it was introduced, im sure we all would miss the "drama" to some extent

Not really as the keeper didn't actually cheat , unlike Henry

In fairness the English FA did call for it back in March.

There's a huge difference between supporting something and using your significant influence to actually put some significant pressure on in order to force a change.

    Nearly 3-1

Muller should've scored there, clear chance.

Is Gerrard trying to get the golden 'most shots off target' boot?

Could we please bring back on the England team from the 1st half?? This is worrying.

Seems like Germany getting no decisions - corner there after that shot.

Upson's lack of vision is frightening for a premier league and English international player. Terry not much better.

And yet again, where the f**k is Joe Cole!!!

I thought the reason sports fans were passionate was becase of the drama not the predictability . .

If I want to be bored and depressed I will watch Eastenders . .

Jesus Rooney has been beyond sh*t, everything he's trying is miles off, shots, first touch, through balls.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭Raskolnikov

As great as Rooney is, he's having a total stinker.

    England playing better now.

Would there be less or more drama if it was now 2-2 and a real nail biter rather then 2-1 with bitter recriminations?

Sport can be dramatic all on its own, it doesn't need "unfairness" souring it...

    Important block from Boateng there

That's always how it has been though. Galling, but football would benefit.

Would you? He'd likely never play for Germany again.

Nice thought but it would never, ever happen - not in a game as important as this.

No one should blame the German goalie.

I have several times and other decisions and that was only 5 a side, surly a pro would be honourable. Anyway back to the game, agree the ref is gonna give nothing to Germany even you would suspect a clear peno. England are growing in confidence and Germany seen shell shocked. England to qualify.

Germany and England both look vulnerable.

    Sweet turn from Schweinsteiger.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

They need to take Rooney off and replace him with Joe Cole. Rooney is not the same player since he came back from injury.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,235 ✭✭✭✭flahavaj

Hugely exciting game but there is a distinct lack of quality on show as well.

Neither team is going to win this tournament tbh.

Stinker of a World cup to be honest.

Ever since that Bayern Munich injury he has been unrecognisable.

    Get Milner off, offering nothing

He's set up England's best chances in the last few minutes. Wouldn't be surprised if he scored. Obviously he's nowhere near his best though, but 'stinker' is an overstatement.

    Milner's shot was going in!

He's been foul all worldcup. He shouldn't be undropable, he has been terrible in every single game, crouch should be on instead of him

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,597 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

time for england to make some changes, cole for milner maybe and possibly crouch on. Would have to take Rooney off for that though, he is offering nothing except for a poor touch. Or do you change the midfield around altogether, Gerrard been poor enough, but better than Barry and/or Milner.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭TripleAce

what a great game though, first time that as a neutral I get so excited in a game where my team is not playing!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,019 ✭✭✭✭adox

End to end stuff. Great to watch. Both defences are poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭_Bella_

Joe Coles coming on... I'm quite surprised

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

both teams have a dodgey defense, could go either way now.
change for england?!??! here comes the other cole on for milner

That's a big if, and if the English did force Fifa to introduce goal line technology it would just show what exactly world football thinks of smaller nations.

Tbh, seeded play-offs already tell you what they think of smaller nations.

Schweinsteiger is such a quality player. Best central midfielder out there today by a distance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭qwertplaywert

Joe Cole coming on, Milners off. Not a bad call, Milner has done decent, but Boateng is playing a stormer, they need to try something different

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,321 ✭✭✭Jackobyte

    There is Joe now.

If Germany win 2-1 you can bet there will be talk for years to come then if it finished 2-2 . .

I never said I agreed with it, but its a valid opinion and not as clear cut as you are trying to make it out .

Whatever way you put it, ref errors is part of the drama as we know it . . To take it away will not guarantee more enjoyable sport . .

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,906 ✭✭✭SarahBM

    Muller has been quality too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 714 ✭✭✭Livvie

I have several times and other decisions and that was only 5 a side, surly a pro would be honourable. .

Should be, but it's unrealistic. Professional football gets less and less about the game and more and more about success and cash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,144 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

I dunno...now aside from A.Cole and Johnson, every single player on the England team naturally wants to be central...just further congesting the central third..Just making it easier for the german cb's.

    Lampard to strike again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,178 ✭✭✭Bob the Seducer

Cole playing for his summer transfer today.

Joe Cole has done more in a minute than Lennon, Milner and Wright-Philips all tournament.

    Edit: Goal.
