    Hi,
I've been looking over alot of videos on youtube of Jamie Oliver receipes and there are all using non stick pans.

Heres a vid for example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85ZfybdOynY&feature=channel

Due to my lack of confidence I'm thinking maybe technique will be abit different in a cast iron than non stick in the videos or is that incorrect?

Is it useful to have a non stick and a cast iron?

Non stick is light and heats up relatively quickly, cast iron is VERY heavy and takes a while to heat up. Both have different merits and you can use both for different things, for instance, most cast iron pans can be put in the oven. If you had to choose just one to buy I'd get the non stick, it'll be very easy to cook in for a new chef! If you have a cast iron pan hold onto it, you'll use it at some stage.

Thanks. I'm just looking at nisbets and see they only have a brand called vogue - there quite cheap aswell.

Do you know if these are ok? I would have thought nisbets would have had better quality ones.

I've invested in a couple of Woll pans which are heavy machined cast aluminium non-stick pans that have detachable handles and can be used in the oven as well. They're the dog's dangly bits, but are'nt cheap ... I paid €110 for a 26cm deep saute pan, but it beats any of that Jamie Oliver Tefal stuff any day.
