Anyway back OT,what did the Iranians do to deserve 'freedom'

America is the greatest country in the world, without it there would be complete anarchy.

The might of the US army ensures people continue to be free.
for sure, you will say Iraq is a disaster but a failed state is better than a dictatorship with chemical / nuclear weapons, ready to use against its neighbors.

iran has nuclear weapons and could use against israel, iran must be stopped at all costs.

Can't speak for Israel, but America will not "attack Iran within days," certainly not with conventional military forces. Not "within days" or months or before the 2012 presidential elections. So after all the entertaining CT speculation, this thread will die like many others in the past on this forum. :pac:

Lets us all hope your right but personally I feel that you and many other people like yourself, through no fault of your own am not having a dig, don't appear to grasp the potential seriousness of the situation that is beginning to unfold.

Should Israel attack Iran on its own the US may well have no choice and become involved anyway as a result of Iranian retaliation against the Saudis in particular. At the end of the day for all Americas talk of backing Israel and being a friend and all that, Saudi Arabia is more important to US foreign policy. Its Saudi oil that run American factories and industry. The US, Europe and many Arab nations would like nothing more than for Israel to level Iran to rubble and then some. They would condemn the attack in public whilst congratulating Israel behind closed doors.

Israel views Iran as a threat to its very survival and is convinced that Iran is trying to aqquire nuclear weapons be that truth or fiction. Iran as consistently refused to stop its nuclear program and the recent unilateral sanctions passed by the US would appear to have had the opposite affect. Iran is digging its heels in further.

Something has to give. The question is what.

It becomes really serious when you look at what an Israeli attack might entail and there a few reasons for the methods they might use or be forced to use.

Israel really doesn't have the conventional military capability to launch a sustained and successful attack on its own. Many of the potential targets are deep underground. Many of the potential targets are in built up areas populated with civilians. If Israel launched a conventional strike against Iran it may set the nuclear program back a couple of years at best. The resulting collateral damage and geo-political consequences of an attack that will only set the Iranians back a couple of years would have to be deemed by Israeli commanders as not worth it. So if Israel is to attack, unilaterally, they will go for bust. This may even mean tactical nuclear weapons as horrible a thought as that is. It may be the only method by which Israel could be sure that the Iranian nuclear program is destroyed once and for all.

The US and Europe would appear to be not prepared to take the lead in any attack, which might back Israel into a corner and they may feel ultimately that they have no choice but to act alone. In their minds they believe they are in the right. In Iranian minds they believe they are in the right.

All that said I hope its you thats right and that this all blows over or is sorted out in a rational human way. They all sit down around a table and come to sort of conclusion that suits all parties and everyones a winner. Then you can laugh at me or whatever and say I told you so I'd like nothing more than for that to happen I would actually go nice one. I just hope rational minds prevail in the end.

    Certainly not.

What would your life be like today if USSR had more influence over the world?

USA has done nothing but good throughout the world and the anti-american sentiment is unjustified in my opinion.

Arguably, the US have made some mistakes with their foreign policies but the positive contributions made far outweigh the negative.

I can imagine anti-american posters here would enjoy living in the gulags of USSR or under the tyrannical regime of China.

Instead you live life of luxury with internet and the culture of america.

Ireland has always been a friend of the US and todays irish people identify more with culture of USA than any other country (with exception to UK) in the world.

I'll bet most of you have some influence of america in your lives somewhere.

Yes, these are terrible results of war and i can't excuse what happened.
But are you being honest with yourself by denying the US has any influence over your lives whatsoever?

And can you really blame the actions of a few on an entire population of people?

Pablo, unfortunately the "few" are the leaders, this has been going on for decades, more. They recruited the Nazi's after WW2.
I have not heard anyone with you're view of the U.S ever, other than tv.
Where do you live ?

Yes, these are terrible results of war and i can't excuse what happened.

You shouldn't have to, sorry if I gave the impression that I was directly connecting you to these atrocities. If you are American I have nothing against you at all, some of the nicest people I have met are American. The American system of government (untainted and not dictated by corporations, which it is currently) is just about as good as it gets in my opinion,
But are you being honest with yourself by denying the US has any influence over your lives whatsoever?

Absolutely, the US has had influence over me since birth - some negative, some positive, some neutral.

I moved to the countryside about two years ago from a city and here there is no McDonalds, MTV, Starbucks etc and it is fantastic.
And can you really blame the actions of a few on an entire population of people?
Certainly not, but when your tax dollars are paying for bombs that are dropping on innocent peoples heads and you do nothing you shoulder some of the responsibility in my view.

Do you know how many (peaceful) nuclear sites Iran has? Over 80! and spread throughout the length and breadth of the country. How will it be possible to avoid massive civilian casualties in such a scenario?

How can you trust the same intelligence reports that told you there was WMD in Iraq? Hundreds of thousands, if not millions have lost their lives due to this lie, including US servicemen while foriegn corporations cash in.

It's unfortunate we have to use terms like America, Iran, Israel when essentially talking about human beings with pretty much the same loves, needs, desires and fears as anybody else - I know it's necessary for the purpose of these discussions though i wonder how much we're truly communicating, and not fuelling the flames of division and confrontation.

If there's yet another war in middle-east, the loss of life will be huge, the environmental destruction will be huge, the overall pain and misery on all levels will be huge - war anywhere right now is totally unnecessary and insane. You can be pretty sure the overwhelming majority of people will not support it - anywhere on earth - and only a handful of psychopaths will profit. The very same calling for war sipping champagne on their palace lawns, who'll never want for anything in their lives anyway ...

Same old same old. Divide and rule. I know it's probably off topic but came across a Buddhist saying about that the other day:

"What we learned as children, that one plus one equals two, we know to be false. One plus one equals one. We even have a word for when you, plus another, equals one. That word is love."

First of all it is not the entire population of America that is at fault.
Second, yes America has a massive influence over irish society and its a sad thing to see.I am victim to it myself by participation so stand partly guilty of allowing the american media into my life in the many forms it is here in our country and on tv and radio etc.It is for one thing ruining our Irish culture and heritage. And i would argue degrading irish society with its filthy morals.
The american media is a giant propoganda machine to rival that of the old USSR.It is most likely the same experiment except more refined and i believe the EU is also an upgraded experiment of that again.

This isnt to say that other dictators are right either.Im just saying it appears to me to be a biased oppinion if anyone thinks America is the "good guy" on this planet. There is no good guy just alot of primitive lunatics running every country it seems into the ground...or a global governance.
It could be debateable wether Iran are a potential threat. But it is also debateable wether America are the saviours of the west when considering what they(i mean those representing the states and its corperations etc) have done to this planet and the example they set for the rest of the world is not exactly sterling.

as the u.s.a says let us bring democracy to your country but as we do this "against the wishes of your citizens" we will kill/torture/mame and rape half of your population. yep sounds like america has brought freedom and democracy to other countries alright. I don't blame most americans for the actions of their military and governments though as so called democracy has been removed from the u's'a the land of freedom is no more.

democracy is much closer to collectivism than it is to individualism. Like collectivism, democracy places essential political power with the group, rather than with the individual – thus making everyone's freedom subject to the passions of the mob or those with the most power.

Yeah and it also includes Israelites/Jews so I don't see why they'd be anti-themselves

They're a western nation and probably the country we can most identify with after Britain

What genocide are they turning a blind eye to?

Jew is not an ethnicity, its a Religion, same as saying that Muslim or Catholic is an ethnicity.
They're a western nation and probably the country we can most identify with after Britain
they are a Middle Eastern theocracy, and a Racist one at that.
What genocide are they turning a blind eye to?
    well lets start with Gaza

And whats the EU doing about it? or any other nation? what do you expect the US to do, it's not their country, and theres no way they could invade Israel
And its not just America, most major powers have history that they'd rather not. I'd don't think thats its too far a stretch that if Ireland won independence for the whole island sometime in the past 400 years that there could have been a genocide against the Protestants.
I still think the world is better off with a powerful America
