Folks I am looking for a ballpark figure for the following:

    - to hang 16 pre-hung doors
    - to fit 17 window boards which need to be cut to size.

How much roughly would a carpenter be looking to charge for this.

    Any replies appreciated

    Bull

Thanks for your reply Pot Noodle

Any idea what this would be for 17 standard doors (i.e. not pre-hung), plus about 200m of skirting.

best I can get is 1700 but it sounds a bit steep to me.
I know skirting is about 2 days work - hard to imagine hanging a door would be a full days work for 1 man - or is it?

How much are you expecting to pay a carpenter for the day?? As per your post you are expecting to pay less than € 100 per day?? Are there carpenters out there working for this little money per day?, After tax etc. that's very small money!

A lot of trades these days work for 100 a day.
This is assuming it takes a full day to hang a door - which i'm not sure.
If it took him 1/2 a day per door, then he'd be making 200 a day.

Sorry - to be clear, it would be doorframe, door and architrave for each door.
Still would imagine it would be less than a day per door set.

danbohan, do you know roughly how long it would take a carpenter to do it, and as a result, what a fair price for 17 doors would be?

    € 50 a door & frame + arch & Skirting €5 a meter

    Thanks Pot Noodle.

Door price sounds reasonable, including arch it would be about 60-65, which would suggest 1000 to 1100 for all 17 doors.

I was told by carpenter that it would do 200m of skirting in 2-3 days.
Some money if he's getting 5 euro a meter for that. that's a grand for 3 days work.

I think I'd better let him at the doors and tackle the skirting myself (skirting doesn't seem that hard to do, in fairness...)

    16 pre-hung doors = 16 hours
    17 window board = 8 hours

    Expect to pay about 350

not enough for the door and frame
and too much for the skirting

    350 isnt enough
if just doors and window boards ,id say 450 would be fair ,give or take 20 euro or so

I agree with time, nearly. I's say 420-450. No more than 500.

Hey im only giving the Op a guide line i am not looking for the job

This all seems reasonable as in my recent tender docs a builder has quoted 8K to supply and hang 13 1/2 hour paint grade plain fire doors. Needless to say i'm not paying that.

Ok so I got a quote from a carpenter for the following, a bit more work than i have above.

    - Hang 16 pre-hung doors, including architraves
    - Put in 17 window boards
    - Put in bannister/spindles etc on the landing (I have concrete stairs with wall each side). Also handrail for stairs itself.
    - lay approx 180 sq yards of wood flooring (about 50% engineered 50% laminate)
    - Approx 200m of skirting installed

I think thats everything. Just on the doors they are oak with red deal frames/architrave/skirting which will be painted. He asked whether they would be painted or varnished. I told him painted. Now I'm not sure if that was included in the quote(ie the painting of skirting etc). Is this something that the carpenter would normally carry out or not. I will obviously confirm this before anything is agreed, just wondering for now.

Anyways the total cost for the above is €2,500. How does this sound?

He said the floors alone would make up the guts of half the cost. These are something I contemplated doing myself but for fear of making a hash of them I feel its safer letting a carpenter do them.

This caprenter does alot of work around the area for a major building contractor and has done alot of work for 2 friends of mine so I know he does a good job.
