Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm looking into getting my first car and learning to drive. I'm look to not really spend more that bout 1300 and engine size of bout 1.2 to keep the insurance down!

What would people recommend as good cars to get starting off?

I had an Opel Corsa for my first car and found it great for learning as it is small, it's also economical.

I wouldn't recommend a Golf like that as a first car. The MkIV wasn't known for it's reliability and the 1.4 litre engine and gearbox were very poor with lots of issues. Potential to break your heart and wallet. The Fiesta is a much better prospect imo.

I have heard of copy and paste, yes. Still a fail by all accounts.

And don't buy a Mk4 OP, heart breaking isn't the word. You'd very soon be able to take apart and rebuild every part of the car by the time your ownership is up though :P

<shameless plug for my ford fiesta in my sig>

Seriously - from experience the fiesta is a great car to start off in. Ive driven other small cars since, from corsas to stilos and a lot in between. Id still reccomend the fiesta.

Agreed! All of these are great for starting out, easy to drive and lots of room for small looking cars. Also, very safe!

Granted but would insurance not be a killer for a first timer?

A clean one with no modifications shouldn't be too bad.
Granted, age and sex will also play part in that... Sadly.
