    hey guys!!
Just wondering, have a bit of a prob. not really a prob but sure i'll say it anyway.
So dossed completely for 2nd year of college and had to repeat it last year, and kinda kept to myself to get the head down an pass everything and still hung out with my classmates who would hav progressed to 3rd year.
Anyway, they've graduated now and while I still see em and yap to them they aint gonna be their in september which worries me cos I made no effort with anyone in my "new" year so dont no anyone. and wouldnt really like my final year to be the loner years!!
so im wondering is it too late to join a soc or whatev and make a couple of new pals ? or are the clicks already made by now!!

ps this is not a "please be my friend thread " haha

But seriously ..... Will you be my friend

Totally not! Every soc gets refreshed every year by newbies, but not all are first yrs, who mainly sign up and rarely attend. Get yourself to the freshers tent and start chatting.

I assume you're in arts, and I know there's not much of "let's all chill together" vibe that other faculties have, but you can meet ppl in every hang out in UCD.

Also talk to all the tables at freshers tent, you'll get a vibe for the ppl, even if you may not be that interested in whatever they're 'for'*. Also attend the events, tht's where you'll make friends and meet ppl through them etc.

    *which for most is socialising.

Well done for repeating and passing! Remember talk to ppl in your tuts, you may as well be friends, you'll see them everyweek. Good luck!

Definitely not too late if you're a third year. Sure there are always postgrad and mature students to be found signing up for societies and clubs. I think you should join a few. I never stuck with them personally, which I do regret looking back, but I had many great social evenings through them.

the clubs and societies are there for all students no matter what year your in, you'll usually find it to be a group of friends from different years where what year your in isn't an issue
sure the older members will be closer and at first you may get a feeling like your imposing but the key is to stick to it and put effort into making friends

as has been said every september there's fresh meat in every society. You won't be the only one outside of first year joining societies.Get involved and you'll meet new people faster than you think.

Join more societies as well, you never know which one will fit you.I joined like 10 and finally settled on Gamesoc as i thought they were the nicest and I got on well with them,I wasn't even a gamer.

keep at it and keep an open mind, you never know who'll you end up hangin out with

It was only in my final year that I decided to get involved with societies, clubs and the SU.

Much like everything in college, its incredibly easy to break in, get to know people and have a laugh.

It is NOT too late. I was much the same myself. In my final year I joined the athletics club and it completely changed my experience in UCD for the better. I met a bunch of really great people, had fun and my grades did not suffer either (GPA 3.5). Get yourself down to whichever club or society that tickles your fancy and have a bit of fun. I would suggest one of the sports clubs purely because exercise helps with the study. If you are just a beginner don't let that put you off either. All the sports clubs welcome beginners. Have a good time. :)
